Our Summer Outside Toys Wish List

When we purchased our house nearly 5 years ago, (5 years this fall, whoa!!) we certainly weren’t thinking about babies. I assumed we’d move out of this house before we started a family, so I never entertained the idea that our house wasn’t exactly kid-friendly.

But then life happened, and before we knew it, we were starting a family and moving wasn’t an option, nor something that seemed necessary with a newborn. We quickly knew however that as soon as Adeline was toddler age and starting to play outside more, we’d start thinking about making a move in order to give our kids a safer yard and neighborhood. Not like crime safe, but literally just safer. We currently live on a big hill, our front yard is pretty much rock and woods, and our backyard is also rocks, dirt, weeds, natural hillside. It’s really anything BUT kid-friendly.

I dream of the day when I can open our backdoor and say, “go play!” as the kids scurry out onto a beautiful plush green lawn in our tiny easily-maintained backyard. Or the day when we teach our kids how to ride their bikes out on our quiet street, while chatting with other young families along the sidewalk. Heck, even the day when we can sit out on the front porch, sipping a route 44 Dr. Pepper while the kids chalk up the driveway and play in their bubble machine. Ah, life in the ‘burbs. I’ve loved living in a more wooded area, and I grew up practically on a mountain of sorts in the TN hills, but I’m excited to transition into something that honestly just requires less upkeep.

With that being said, I’ve got a running list on Amazon of quintessential outside toys we may soon need to acquire! A backyard is the best playroom there is, and I’m so excited to make it FUN! Here is my list of outside toys I’m deeming as perfectly toddler friendly for the upcoming summer days. They all seem to be classics, in my opinion. Adeline isn’t quite big enough for a huge swing set or playground yet, but you better believe I’ve eye-balled them at Lowe’s! #dreamplayground

I’d love to hear more suggestions! If you’re lucky enough to have a great yard and street, you probably have most of these already!

This is a great list! We live in a townhouse without much of a yard at all, but we have wall-length sliding glass doors that open out onto a decent sized back porch. We have a water table, two little Fisher Price slide toys (a bus and a more standard slide) and a few other toys. Little guy’s favorites? A box of small rocks with buckets, shovels, and plastic trucks, and the magic beads we put in the water table ($1 on amazon!). It is so nice to be able to send him out there and watch while I cook dinner or drink coffee. Good luck creating your outdoor play space!

Hahaha OF COURSE his fave toys aren’t the “big” things! Isn’t that so funny? Those sound like great options though for the space you have! Ahhh I dream of that day, watching the kids play while I drink my coffee in silence inside 😉 ha!

Man aren’t swingsets so expensive! Goodness I was not ready for that price. We have number 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, and 16. hahaha SO many were given to us for free. Our back yard is big so it works for us, though sometimes the amount of toys is overwhelming. And now I need the little toys back out. Goodness. Anywayyy I can’t wait for you guys to get a house Adeline can just run outside and play at!

Haha I figured you’d have most of these! Based on your snaps I feel like Annabelle is all set! If we had a yard I would have splurged for some of these, but it’s so hard to justify them without even having grass for her to play on! EEEEEK one day soon hopefully we’ll get a great yard for her!!

Yay I LOVE outdoor toys! My niece is obsessed with her water table and play house outside. I think sandboxes are another big hit too!

My nephews love theirs too!! I thought about a sandbox! Adeline is still too young I feel like – I can just see her digging in the sand then touch her eyes and it being a disaster!

This is a great list! I have the same dreams as you and hopefully we will be in a different living situation soon. Currently we have a small condo with only two small decks. The grassy area isn’t private for us to use and I feel so bad for our son. I wish so badly he had the room to run, play, and do whatever he wanted but hopefully in the next year or two that will change!

This wishlist is just amazing. It contains pretty much everything I’d wish for my kids too. Well, I guess it’s time to get ready for summer and buy some of these toys.

We have a few of these, and I couldn’t believe that the bubble maker would be their favorite!

I really want to get my niece the bubble mower, because its something I would have loved growing up. Only problem is we live a rural area so…. yeah. She has never seen a lawn mower that wasn’t riding. But I still think she would have loads of fun just making the bubbles!

I know I’m a couple months late to this post…. did you end up getting anything off your wishlist?
