Oh BOY! Here We Go Again!

This post is in partnership with buybuy BABY.

It’s no secret that when we found out we were having a boy, we were both more than shocked. Neither one of us had ever considered having a boy, and had always just assumed our life would end up like Tim Allen’s on Last Man Standing and be blessed with a house full of girls. (Oh the things you think when you’re a naive first time parent, living in a world of all pink!) So when I got pregnant, we had zero inkling of jumping to #teamblue, even though we soon learned our inklings were very, very wrong! We quickly settled into the idea though, and the prospect of bringing some colors into our home other than every shade of pink has grown on us. We’re pretty stoked now to welcome a bouncing baby BOY, and we’re having a blast picking out boy things here and there. Bring on the blue and all things neutral!

Since this is baby #2, there honestly aren’t a lot of things we need. We’ve already got all of the essential gear and big ticket items, and aside from diapers, wipes, toiletries, and boy clothes, we’re pretty set. So when we started the process of registering, we looked at our registry as more of a wish list and a stockpile of basics. What do we need to stock up on beforehand? What would we do differently this time if we could? What’s something fun we wish we had the first time? What new baby product came out in the past 3 years that we’d like to try? What are some boy specific items we’d like to spoil little guy with? How can we bring more blue into the nursery?

When we registered with Adeline, we were living in Arkansas so our registries were limited to Target and Amazon. This time though, we live right down the road from a buybuy BABY and were thrilled to be able to register there! buybuy BABY is kind of like the land of milk and honey when it comes to baby items – it’s amazing. Seriously, I could spend hours browsing the aisles, dreaming about things I would put in my dream nursery and diaper bag. They have the newest, trendiest, and best selection of anything you could possibly imagine needing from pregnancy through the toddler years. Think Bed Bath & Beyond but, Baby Baby & Baby. (Same parent company, btw!)

Recently, we popped in to speak with a registry expert as we finalized our registry. We opened our buybuy BABY registry online originally, but wanted to go in-store to make sure we weren’t missing anything. Plus, it’s always nice to get your hands on things beforehand. When it comes to the world of baby things, there’s a million different options for everything, and sometimes it’s just easier to put them all in front of you, and ask an expert. (Or pick the softest one!)

The employee we worked with was super sweet, and walked us all around the store, jogging our memories of things we hadn’t even thought about. She thoroughly answered some detailed questions Adam had about monitors, which we loved, and pointed out some new-to-us brands I immediately fell in love with.

Here are a few bonuses for registering and shopping at buybuy BABY:

  • The registry process is super simple, but very in-depth. I promise they won’t let you forget anything! You’ll receive a tour through each department.
  • You’ll receive a fun goodie bag, chalk full of coupons and samples.
  • You’ll be eligible for the registry completion discount of 15% as you near your due date.
  • They accept both buybuy BABY coupons, and Bed Bath & Beyond coupons. You can use one coupon per item, so essentially you can rack up a pretty nice discount if you’re a coupon hoarder.
  • You can view and organize your registry online, and it’s very use friendly.

After we finished up with our registry expert, we made the rounds ourselves picking up a handful of fun items we deemed absolutely essential for our little man. We’re slowly but surely getting out of the habit of reaching for girly pink things, and are instead reaching for manly blue things! To say it’s a different world is an understatement! I’m personally loving the navy blues, grays, and browns, as opposed to black or pastel tones like green or yellow, and I think we’re off to a great start.

Here’s what we picked up on our first “we’re having a boy and don’t know what we’re doing!” shopping spree!

Aden + Anais Muslin Swaddle Blankets

This was my favorite brand of swaddle blankets with Adeline, and I was immediately drawn to the navy blue patterns of this pack! I can’t wait to swaddle little guy up in these. Plus they’ll make great photo backdrops.

Aden + Anais Burpy Bib

This is a new-to-us product, but I’m excited about it! It can be exactly like it sounds, a bib or a burp cloth. I love the muslin material, and you can never have too many burp cloths.

Darth Vader and Son

Do you even know my husband?

Just Born Cable Knit Blanket

Again, I’m loving navy blue right now and thought this blanket was a must-have. It’s incredibly soft – fuzzy on one side and cable knit on the other.

Blankets & Beyond Teddy Bear Lovey (only available in-store)

Because every baby needs a lovey, and I couldn’t resist the bear.

Philips Avent 0-6M Freeflow Pacifiers

Adeline loved these pacis once we got her off her WubbaNub, so I’m hoping to start little guy on them a little sooner. I like that they’re supposed to be a little more teeth friendly.

BooginHead Seattle Pacifier Strap

We would have died without paci clips the first time around, but the only ones we still have are pink and covered in spit up stains. #truelife. I loved this navy blue chevron pattern and thought we needed it in our arsenal.

WubbaNub Longhorn Pacifier

WubbaNubs are a MUST for the early paci days! They’re so easy for baby to hold, and the soothie paci that’s attached is extra breastfeeding friendly. Annnd it’s a longhorn, because duh, we’re in Texas now.

I think that wraps it up! Overall, we’re so thankful to be close to a buybuy BABY and I see many trips in our future. I think now that we’ve got our first little BOY shopping spree under our belts, the fun is really just beginning! We’re officially Team Blue, ya’ll!

Do you shop at buybuy BABY? What were some of your favorite products you bought one of your babies? Were you shocked to find out the gender of any of your littles?

The Aden & Anais stuff is so nice! I love our blankets & burpy bibs! I registered for a Wubbanub for Vienna but then we never ended up giving her a paci… may be for the second one?

Never got a lovey for her, what age did you introduce that?

Yes! Aden & Anais stuff is such great quality! Adeline was a big paci baby, so every baby is just different! For her lovey, I had that monogrammed before she was born and gave it to her from day 1, but it’s mainly always just been a soft keepsake in her bed because she randomly got REALLY attached to her puppy dog stuffed animal!
