Good morning! Happy Monday!
It’s been a busy past few days over here, and I have lots to update you on! First – if you haven’t filled out my survey, I would love it if you would take a few minutes to do so! It would be oh so helpful!
Last week we hit a major milestone around here…I survived my first overnight trip away from Adeline! 13 months later. Ha! I think no matter how “old” they are, it’s never easy to spend that first night away. I think if we had family in town to keep her more often, this would have happened several months ago, but honestly this was just the first time I ever actually needed to spend the night away. I think both me and Adam would have totally taken a parents-only trip a long time ago, but just never had the chance. And truth be told, it was very anxiety inducing to think about spending the night away from Adeline the first time, but we made it!
So let’s catch up. Thursday morning I drove up to my company’s home office about 3 hours north of us, and met some coworkers for lunch, then worked from the office for a few hours before heading to the company Christmas party that night. It was definitely nice to meet in person the people I work with every day through my computer! The party was also fun, and while mama had fun and enjoyed being “off duty”, I still thought about Adeline pretty much the entire time. No surprise! I drove home Friday around lunch time, then finished up the work day at home after a quick power nap. Picking up Adeline Friday night from daycare was the SWEETEST thing ever. As soon as she saw me she started almost jumping up and down (baby jumping…we’re not big enough for her feet to leave the ground just yet!) and smiling and shaking her head side to side which is her version of dancing. It was such a precious reunion and I can’t believe how much I missed her after just 24 hours!! I’m already dreading my next work trip in January that will be 4 days out of state. I’m pretending it’s just not happening. I’m going to need some serious hugs before this doozy of a trip.
All in all though, it wasn’t that bad. Fellow working mamas – if I can do it, you can do it! I think having my first time away being so short was a good icebreaker for future trips. It’s bound to happen, and is unfortunately just a part of the role you take on as a working mom! I just keep reminding myself that it’s good for my soul and my mental health to not be on-call 24/7, and that having a little time to really do adult things and interact with other professionals, is totally okay.
Saturday morning we woke up and decided to go down the street to our little community center for a Pancakes With Santa breakfast. Adeline hadn’t seen Santa this year yet so we thought this would be a fun little adventure. I knew she would scream, and be terrified, but I had no idea how #classic it would really be. I can’t wait to throw this one in the memory books under Must Have Childhood Photos! And maybe in her wedding slideshow one day.
I absolutely adored her outfit however! I’ve got a couple more fun Christmas outfits hanging in her closet that I can’t wait for her to wear! Sorry in advance for flooding the internet with festive Adeline pictures.
Adeline was EXHAUSTED after her Santa encounter, so we snuggled in for a good nap when we got home! Melt. My. Heart.
Saturday afternoon, some good friends of ours came to visit, and Adeline ham’d it up the whole time! She is such a little booger and loved showing off! We miss our friends so much, and it is so special seeing them love on our girly girl! Before they left we snapped a selfie, which, in my opinion, turned out excellent!
After they left, I picked up a girlfriend and she and Adeline and I all hit up Hobby Lobby and Target for some little shopping before meeting the husbands for dinner. While we were at Hobby Lobby, Adeline was itching to get out of the stroller and ohhhhh my goodness. She was PUMPED to run around the aisles! I’ve never set her down in public like that and she just thought it was the coolest thing! She walked all over the place, touching everything she could find. It was equally adorable as it was stressful! My heart skipped a beat when she ran down the glass mason jar aisle, but thank God her little wandering hands didn’t knock over anything! I bought the cutest mug while I was there, and it perfectly sums up the past few days.
Because…big news big new BIG NEWS!!!!!
Mr. Sutton James graced us with his presence, securing his spot as our fifth nephew and third grandchild on my side of the family. He weighed in at a petite 7lbs 2oz, and has the prettiest dark hair I ever did see! And in case you missed it, our FOURTH nephew was also born last week! Henry “Hank” Dewitt was born on 12/7, claiming the seventh grandchild position on Adam’s side! Both boys and mamas are doing well and I am just smitten over each! We’ll be heading to OKC to meet little Hank over New Years and I can’t wait to get my hands on him!!!
I drove over to Nashville yesterday with Adeline to stay with my parents for the week and I’m so excited to squeeze in some nephew lovin’ and maybe a little Christmas shopping. And work. Because I can work from anywhere and it’s still just the coolest thing since sliced bread! Annnnnd my assistant is just the cutest.
