Weekend Reflections & Day 1

Hi friends! Sorry for falling out of the blogosphere for a few days, but I’ve been busy with this little thing called “life.” This post is going to be a bit of a catch-up game, and a photo dump, so bare with me!

If you’ve been following along, you’ll remember that today was my first day at my new job! It was fabulous, and I can’t wait to tell you more about it! Thank you again to everyone who has sent encouraging messages, and those of you who have shared that previous post! I’m so glad it inspired some of you, meant something to some of you, and maybe made some of you think about your own happiness :)

Just to tide you over, here’s a look at my office, undecorated and pre-furniture rearranging of course!

Also, because now I’m going to be the ultimate SEO nerd, I will say that this post is going to do absolutely nothing for my blog’s SEO, and I’m quite alright with that, but just for today ;)

Ok, let’s start with last Thursday. Since it was the night before my last day of work at my (now) old job, Adam and I took it upon ourselves to celebrate! We ate dinner at Chuy’s, then grabbed cupcakes for dessert, before walking it all off at Target. A perfect date night if you ask me! We think it’s so important to remember to “date” each other even after you’ve gotten married, and all too often we forget to take a night like this for ourselves and spend time acting giddy around each other.

Aren’t those cupcakes exactly what you want to see on a “healthy living blog?” Yes. Yes I think so.

Friday was my last day, and it was near impossible to stay focused and get my work done! I had already mentally checked out earlier that week, so by Friday I knew it would be a struggle to even make it to my exit interview. God is so good, and knew that Friday was literally the last day I could take. Any longer and I would have gone insane! And side note, I can see my old building from my new building…of.course.I.can.

Friday night a few girls came over and we constructed a diaper cake for a friend’s baby shower. I had never seen the process of “making” a diaper cake, so it was all new to me. However, it turned out WAY cute, and I also can’t wait to share a picture of it! Won’t be for a while though, it still has to be a surprise :) If you’re now wondering what a diaper cake IS, behold…

Correction: That is NOT the diaper cake we made. That is a diaper cake compliments of Google.

Saturday morning I woke up early and headed to the lake for my long run. 8 miles was on the ticket, and 8 miles it was. I started at 7 am, and by the time I finished I was ready to lay in bed the rest of the day. The heat is still killer here, and the humidity is not a force to reckon with! Running in Arkansas is still an art I am slowly but surely learning! I didn’t push the time very much, and knew it would be pointless in the heat anyways. So, I took it nice and easy, and tried to stay hydrated as much as possible. But, silly me forget to take my Clif Shot Bloks with me so by mile 6 my body was screaming for electrolytes and when I got home after my run I felt TERRIBLE! Lesson learned: you MUST consume some sort of nutrition if you’re running for longer than an hour! I was so mad at myself for forgetting such an easy thing, and I paid for it with an exhausted body and mind afterwards! I don’t even remember the ride home, and just crashed when I walked in the door. Luckily we had plenty of salty chips to munch on and I felt better in no time.

Positive point: my arms and legs soaked up some late summer rays, AND I burned almost 800 calories, meaning I ate like a pig the rest of the day! Whoop whoop! That IS why you run…right?

I rocked my Swiftwick Aspire Twelve compression socks, and thank goodness I did or else I would have battled a constant cramp! These are my favorite compression socks of all, and you should check them out!

Saturday afternoon, we headed up to our college town for a friend’s baby shower! Don’t even get me started on how weird THAT is, but it was a blast seeing the expecting couple and some old friends from college, and getting to join in their excitement as they opened sweet gifts for their baby girl! Such precious times.

I lived with this chica our junior year, and it was probably one of my favorite semesters of college!

Sunday was pretty usual: church, lunch with friends, running errands, small group, home. Done and done.

In between all of that we wondered why Truckee turned out so weird. She is a mess, and is constantly making us laugh. If you follow me on Instagram, you know what’s up.

There once was a time where her fat butt could curl up completely under that chair. She still can, but most of her sticks out still. I don’t know that she’s noticed though.

And can we talk about her height for a second? When did that happen? Tonight she jumped up on me and hugged me like a human, and last night her nose was sniffing everything on the counter.

That girl.

So, if you made it this far, you are now caught up. And if you just clapped your hands and sang that to the tune of Usher’s “Caught Up” you deserve a high five!

On the rest of this week docket:

-I’ll tell you all about the new job!

-Meal planning for a less than domesticated wife, like myself.

-More marathon training!

And because you know I can’t write a blog post without including something to make you laugh, you should probably check out this beyond ridiculous music video my brother stumbled upon. It’s pure genius.

How was your weekend? What are your thoughts on your first day of a new job? Anxious? Nervous?

I love recaps like this and to me HLBs do not only consist of healthy recipes, workout related stuff and fit tips, but especially of the “living”-part. SEO isn’t everything, right ;) ? I stick around on blogs due to the personal posts. Nevertheless online marketing is a fascinating topic and I love to learn more about it. Do you plan on writing a post about SEO?

Ksenija- Oh so glad! I know, even though I consider my blog to be a HLB, I still think I post more about life in general :) Personal posts are what make me come back as well :) I would love to write more about SEO, I might have a project idea for that, but not sure yet, we’ll see!

Yay for the new job! Even though your office is empty, it’s a blank slate! There are so many options for you! I can’t wait to see how you decorate it! Love your hair in that picture with your pregnant friend! I have such curly hair, that I’m not sure mine would ever work that way! (In fact, your hair is just lovely in general!)

Katherine- Thanks! I know!! I’m so excited to decorate :) Haha oh you’re the second person to comment on my hair, that’s so funny, I just scrunch it with a little bit of curling gel when I get out of the shower and let it air dry and voilia! My hair is super straight and THINK when I blow dry it, so during the summer the scrunchy look is an easy go-to :)

Nicole- Haha well that isn’t the actual one we made, the one we made it a bit more retro-ish for a little boy :) And I LOVE shot bloks! Ooooh a 15 mile trail race sounds awesome!! I’ve still not done a trail race yet…you are my inspiration!

Your new office is so nice! Especially that computer!

Yes, that is exactly why I run- so I can burn 800 calories and eat cupcakes like those- holy yum! It’s all about moderation.

Poor Truckee, getting too big to hide under the chair! She’s so cute.

    • Sweet Miles says

Sarah- I agree! I still can’t believe how blessed I am :) I know, Truckee is such a ham, hopefully she’s almost done growing!!

This must be like beetle juice or something, because every time I see a weird video, it appears on your blog post the day after. I love it. And I cannot get over this one.

Congrats times a million on your new job! I knew you had something going from that first post that got me hooked on SEO! So excited for you, not only do you have a great job, a great blog, but you have a WALL OF WINDOWS in your office. A WALL.

    • Sweet Miles says

Anna- Bahaha glad we’re on the same page with the videos. I don’t think I could go a day without finding at least one ridiculous thing to laugh at :) And thanks! HA yea it really is a wall of a window I suppose! You’re hilarious!

Happy to hear the new job is going well! The diaper cake is such a cute idea! I did cupcake onesies for the last baby shower I went to, so easy and cute. I haven’t had a first day on the job in a long time, but just thinking about it makes me a little nervous!
    :-)

    • Sweet Miles says

Kimmie- Cupcake onesies sound SUPER cute! How did you make them?? Like are we talking embroidered or like stenciled on?

  9. says

Ahh can’t wait to hear more about your new job! Your office looks GREAT! I love the color of the walls (so fun!) and all the light that comes in :). Hahah I totally exercise half for my health and half so I can EAT. Great run! Sorry to hear it was draining. At least you got it over and done with successfully!

Side note: you have gorgeous hair!

    • Sweet Miles says

Christine- Haha yes, the lime green accent wall is so happy :) I don’t think there’s anything better than going for a good hard run and then chowing down on some delicious treats :) And thank you! That was a “scrunchy” hair day, aka lazy hair day, my hair is usually straight as a board!
