Another perfect weekend come and gone, and I’m wishing weekends came with a day to recover before Monday. We went into this weekend without any plans, and came away feeling exhausted from doing what felt like all the things. Or maybe it’s just because I’m 33 weeks pregnant and Adam is still hobbling around on an injured hamstring? Either way, we are pooped, and already looking forward to this coming weekend for a little R&R. (Though I’m sure we’ll inevitably fill it up to the brim as well.) I can’t fault myself too much though – we’re soaking up these last few weeks with Adeline as our only little and living it up as much as possible.
It’s been a while since I’ve shared a weekend recap so I thought I’d kick off Monday with a few weekend details.
Friday afternoon, we went on a crazy cleaning binge before hosting some friends for a pizza/game night. Watching the two of us deep clean in our less-than-ideal physical states was rather comical I’m sure, and I’d be lying if I said we both weren’t ready for naps by the time dinner rolled around. The house needed it though, and once we were finished we stepped back and looked at our accomplishment and said, “I wonder how long we can keep it this way??” A clean house is so good for the soul, anyone else agree? Once our friends came over, we treated ourselves to homemade pizza, cookies, and a game night while Adeline hung out on the couch like a big girl eating popcorn and watching one of her favorite movies way past her bedtime. We’re usually sticklers for her bedtime, but figured one late summer Friday night isn’t going to hurt and she thought it was just so cool.
Saturday morning, we ventured our for a very momentous occasion. Adeline’s FIRST time to Waffle House!! This was a big deal, ya’ll. It’s not every day that you get to try Waffle House for the first time, AND eat a huge waffle all by yourself, AND get your very own Waffle House hat. The girl was in Heaven, and I think her Daddy was too. I can already see many daddy/daughter Waffle House dates in their future. We decided that WH totally gets a bad rap even though it’s the BEST breakfast ever. Hash browns smothered, covered, chunked, country, anyone?? Yessssss please.
Once we got home from breakfast, we spent some time cleaning the playroom, and working in baby brother’s room organizing his clothes, baby shower gifts, and putting things away. Adeline was a big helper, and before we knew it it was nap time and she conked out for a solid 2 hour nap! Lately weekend naps are sometimes a struggle, so this was much appreciated.
When she woke up, we went to visit some of Adam’s old friends who have a small farm complete with baby goats! We took Adeline to see the baby goats when she was like 8 months old and couldn’t wait to bring her back now that she’s older. She was obsessed! She was petting them, cracking up, and basically trying to herd them around. It was amazing. Her favorite was a mama goat named Betty, but she says she also liked the daddy goat, even though she never got to pet him. Basically it was near impossible to get her to leave! (I CAN’T BELIEVE I DIDN’T TAKE ANY PICTURES!!!!!!!!)

Saturday night, we went to my in-law’s pool, and swam until it was quittin’ time. Adeline’s favorite part about going over there might just be the swing though, and insists on “doing it by herself” because you know, she’s a teenager now. We picked up Whataburger on the way home and had a quick picnic on the playroom floor before putting Adeline to bed. Times like these are so simple, but so special. I just loved it so much!
Sunday was donuts then church day, followed by an afternoon back at the pool before nap time. Adeline is such a little fish and it’s so much fun to watch! She has no fear, and is all smiles the entire time. Not to mention she’s just really freaking cute in her little swimsuit. She hasn’t done swim lessons yet, but I’m hopeful that when she does she’ll take to them really well!
Sunday night, after another great nap (yay!), we spent the remaining daylight hours playing in the backyard, and snuggling on the couch. She didn’t wake up from her nap until almost 5:30 pm so thankfully once it got dark, Adeline was more than ready to hit the sack.
We didn’t do anything too monumental this weekend (other than Waffle House!), but weekends like this are my favorite. It feels so good to not be traveling all the time like we were when we lived in Arkansas, and we can finally just spend time at home together. I can’t believe we only have 7 weeks or less until baby brother is here, and I’m still trying to wrap my head around what that’s going to be like. On one hand I can’t imagine it not being just the three of us, and on the other I can totally see the FOUR of us meshing together perfectly. I’m trying not to think about it too much though because this time with Adeline is truly so special. As much as our world is about to change, her world is about to change even more!
What did you do this weekend? What kinds of weekends do you prefer?
