Weekend Recap: The One With The Sub 30 5K

Happy Monday! Another weekend flew by, which seems to just be normal these days. We tend to set out with no plans, and before we know it our weekend is jam packed with what’s become our usual routine – pizza, family breakfast, gymnastics, chores, workouts, Target run, church, family lunch, rest. It’s not glamorous, but I’ve been loving the regularity. We used to travel.so.much. and every weekend felt like we were hitting the road. I’m so thankful we’ve found ourselves settling down more, even though with two kids now, there isn’t much down time it feels like!

Friday night, we headed to our favorite little Italian spot for pizza and a family date with just the four of us. A had pizza and spaghetti, and Adam and I branched out with manicotti and chicken marsala. After we were filled to the brim, we stopped by the playground for A to play and get some last minute energy out before heading home to get ready for bed after a LONG week!

Saturday morning, we Waffle House’d (along with apparently every NASCAR fan in the world, oomph! Note to self – don’t go to Waffle House on a race weekend when you live 10 minutes from a major speedway!), then came home and cleaned house before heading back out for A’s gymnastics class. We enjoyed good conversation with some of the other parents while she flipped and rolled and swung to her heart’s content. She’s been doing SO good in her little class, and she just beams with pride when class is over. She loves the beam, and the bars, but practicing her cartwheels is also pretty high up there!

The rest of the day was spent doing chores around the house, getting the kids down for naps, and working on setting some new goals for the month of April. I’m feeling so optimistic and excited for this month ahead, and can’t wait to tackle the goals I’ve set for myself. Some of them are fitness goals, some are Beautycounter goals (I recently promoted to Sr. Consultant! Self high-five!), some are blogging goals, some are personal growth goals, and some are family goals. I’m hoping to share an April goals post sometime this week! Saturday night we hit up Target, then Chick-Fil-A for a WIIILLLDDDD Saturday night! I joke about this, but in all honesty, while we were sitting at CFA, shoving mum-mums in B’s mouth and watching A play on the playground, I couldn’t help but think that there was nowhere else I’d rather be on a Saturday night. (I mean, on a hot dat night, maybe, duh) But really though, I’m in the season of life that I’ve always dreamed about and looked forward to, and spending my weekends doing things that revolve solely around our littles is exactly where I want to be.

Sunday morning, we were off to church, after an earlier than normal morning when both babes were up before the sun. (For some reason these ‘early’ wake ups happen most often on the weekend, anyone else??) Church lately has been so good. We’ve been going through a series on, “Why Talk About Race?” and I would encourage you to give it a listen. I think it’s a sermon series that everyone should hear, especially fellow church goers. Sunday’s sermon was especially great – a pastor from a church in NY that our church helps support gave the lesson and it was SO good! (Kenny Hart – A Revolution of Belonging, sermon series part 4)

Sunday after church, we celebrated my niece’s birthday at my SIL’s house, then during nap time I headed out for a run at the track. This ended up being the highlight of my weekend because I finally reached a goal I’ve been working hard to reach for the past two months. I FINALLY hit sub-30 on a 5k run and I could not be happier about it! I may have shed a few tears when I stopped my watch and saw a time in the twenties. Ya’ll, I can’t even explain how big of a deal this is. Mentally, it’s a reminder to myself of what I’m capable of. There IS still a runner in there, and even after having two babies, I can still work hard to get back in shape, and see results. I’m not where I want to be quite yet, but seeing 29:09 was confirmation that I’m headed in the right direction, and I’m SO excited. And it’s so close to the 28’s – GAH! I know I can shave off 9 seconds, 100%. My splits were: 9:24, 9:25, 9:20, and change. Seeing these splits gives me so much encouragement that what I’m doing is working and I am so proud of myself for making my personal fitness a priority. Here’s to continuing to work hard, and getting faster, and stronger.

Sunday night, I had the kids to myself, so a late bedtime was a given. We snuggled, watched a movie together in the playroom, and hugged each other a little tighter.

And that brings us up to speed! It’s going to be an interesting week, which I’ll share more about later, but for now, I’ll just say that I am thankful for my people, and what matters most in life.

    Totally rocked your 5K! That is awesome. Also LOVE the picture of A with her daddy at CFA. Super adorable.
