This weekend I had one mission and one mission only: clean all the things! And unpack. Finally unpack. We’ve been in the new house for about 3.5 months now and this weekend I finally had the energy to go through the cardboard boxes we still had lying around. We also desperately needed to go through our family binder of paperwork and organize our important documents before it drove me nuts! I can now say that we are totally organized and it feels oh so good! All of our most important certificates and papers are locked safely away in our safe, and everything else is organized in a color coded binder. OCD much? If anyone is interested in my tips for getting those types of things organized, let me know and I’ll add it to my list of post ideas!
Other than cleaning and organizing, we also spent a lot of time just being at home. And I caught myself telling Adam multiple times, “I just love our house!” I’m just still loving it so much, and after living in it for a quarter of a year now it feels perfectly homey and comfortable. We’re still decorating here and there, but it’s been a slow and steady, and strangely relaxed process. And even when we spend several hours at home, I just find myself feeling content and happy. I don’t have the itch to go out and do because I genuinely don’t mind just hanging out in our home! And I think that’s what a home should be – a place you want to be!
Of course, I don’t want to make it sound like we laid on the couch all weekend because we actually snuck in a few fun things as well. Friday night, I took a long walk with Adeline before we headed out to dinner at a new-to-us mexican restaurant in town. We’re getting to the point where we dread taking her to dinner because it’s just hard, but she did surprisingly well even though it was past her bedtime and we were so proud of our little sidekick! (Maybe it’s because she plowed through a bowl of cheese dip, but who knows.) After our cheese dip girl went to bed, we cranked through a couple more Stranger Things 2 episodes and I made a batch of cookies.
Saturday morning, we picked up breakfast to go and brought it back to the house because well, toddler life. After we ate, I ran a few errands with Adam’s mom before heading back for nap time. And random, but we went into a Mardel’s and it was SO cute! It’s a sister store to Hobby Lobby but is Christian based and they also had a huge Melissa & Doug toys section that Adeline just couldn’t get enough of!
Saturday afternoon, we hardcore cleaned and organized while Adeline napped, then headed out for a date night. We ate dinner at a delicious latin-tex-mex type place and it was uh-mazing. We split a huge order of fajitas then walked to get popsicles. It’s been so nice being able to have more date nights. Seriously, life changing! When we got home, Adeline crashed hard and we finally finished Stranger Things 2! I have lots of thoughts…anyone want to discuss?
Sunday morning, we went to church then did some quick grocery shopping where Adeline LOVED pushing her own little cart around. Then we came home and grilled burgers before nap time. While she napped, we again cleaned and organized like crazy. When she woke up, we spent some time coloring and cuddling in the playroom, and she “helped” us do some laundry. Sunday night, we headed to another campus of our church for a campus wide worship night and I’m so glad we went! It was the perfect way to start the week. So thankful for experiences like these.
How was your weekend? Have you finished Stranger Things 2? How do you organize your important family paperwork?
