A Week of Workouts, A Sick Baby, and Too Much Food

And just like that, Thanksgiving break is over and it’s back to reality. Even though we didn’t go anywhere, or really do much, I’m still feeling like I need an extra day to recover!

This past week I successfully hit my goal again and made it to the gym 3 times for 3 great workouts. Plus a quick bonus workout on Sunday. They were each a little different so I thought I’d recap them.

Tuesday night I wasn’t in the mood to run, or do weights, so I settled on the bike for an 11 mile ride! (NOT the recumbent bike!) I always loved riding the bike during my marathon training days and it definitely is a great way to cross train! I’ve felt like it’s always made a big difference in both my cardio strength and my leg strength so it’s for sure worth my time. Plus, if any of my shows are on, it’s actually fun to zone out and ride while you watch tv. I wish I’d looked at how many calories I burned – but most times it’s at least 350.

Wednesday night I knew I needed to get at least one more sweat session in before Turkey Day so I again hit the bike, and added in some strength training. Exercises/machines included:

  • 2 x 12 lat pull downs
  • 3 x 12 row machine (but not really the row row machine, I just don’t know what else to call it!)
  • 2 x 12 chest press
  • 3 x 12 seated leg press
  • 2 x 12 seated leg curl
  • 2 x 12 laying leg curl
  • 20 roman chair knee raises
  • 2 x 15 bosu ball squats
  • 2 mins alternating box step-ups

Friday night, after eating a huge Thanksgiving lunch on Thursday, and two huge plates of leftovers on Friday, AND needing a bit of “me” time after taking care of my sweet sick little princess all week, an almost two hour workout ensued. Adam offered to watch Adeline for a couple hours before bedtime so I could hit the gym, take my time, and relax a little. I was finally able to hit 10 miles on the bike in under 45 minutes, which I haven’t been able to do since before getting pregnant! After biking I did another 45 minutes of strength training:

  • 3 x 12 lat pull downs
  • 3 x 12 row machine
  • 3 x 12 chest press
  • 3 x 12 seated leg press
  • 2 x 12 seated leg curl
  • 4 x 20 yoga ball sit ups
  • 3 – 2 mins alternating box step-ups

Sunday afternoon, we were all feeling a little cabin fever after being inside most of the day after church. We all hit the lake for a family walk/run and Adeline seemed to enjoy the fresh air! We walked the first mile together, then Adam offered to push A so I could take off and run the next mile. Then I turned around and walked back to where they were. It was pretty chilly! I’m not sure when winter arrived but it sure felt like it!

I’ve really been enjoying my new routine, and 3x a week really feels manageable right now. Adam is still working out most days before work and on his lunch break, so it’s fun now that we’re both focused on getting back in shape!

I haven’t decided yet what this week’s workouts will look like – but probably similar to the ones above. They each left me feeling stronger, and proud of myself.

Did you workout last week? Do you workout during holiday breaks? Do you feel extra motivation to workout after a holiday? Favorite machine at the gym?

I actually had a bit of streak last week and worked out six days in a row! I did strength with my trainer on Monday and Wednesday, did the Stairclimber on Tuesday, a Turkey Trot on Thursday and went to spin class on Friday!

You go girl! I never did the bike but you make it seem worthwhile. For some reason I just never find it hard? Or sweaty? lol But I don’t have a bike now and don’t have a gym memberhsip so I haven’t used it in a while. My workouts are like 30 minutes and I totally miss the hour long (or longer!) sweat session!!!

Haha well if you crank up the resistance and do varying intensities, it is VERY sweaty! It’s like making yourself ride hills! You should try it next time you’re at the gym!

I definitely felt the need to get in a few good workouts before and after Thanksgiving. It was hard to get back into a normal routine on Monday but I made it all work. I go to a lot of spinning classes on the weekends, but haven’t really tried much cycling on my own. What do you do to change up the resistance and speed?

I had a great week of workouts last week, but this week- I just can’t get my butt out of bed in the morning!
