Truckee Tales – The Final Dog Days of Summer

And we’re back! It was a gloriously fall-feeling weekend, and I’m bummed it’s already over. It was almost chilly yesterday morning and I am LOVING it!

This weekend I spent a lot of time cleaning, organizing, working on the nursery, shooting my last mini session, crafting for a baby shower, going to said baby shower, and kicking off another season of small group last night. But, the BIG thing we did this weekend was attend the annual Puppy Pool Pawty at our local community pool!

Every summer on the Saturday following Labor Day, they open up the pool to the dogs before they drain it for the year. Dogs must have proof of current Rabies vaccination, and for $10 a dog they can come swim and play as much as they want! Truckee definitely looks forward to it, and it’s a blast to watch her frolic in the water and I can tell it makes her retriever heart so happy!

She prefers to stay in the shallow end, where she can either doggy paddle OR run along the bottom of the pool. She can swim perfectly fine in the deep end, but since there isn’t a walk-in/zero entry on that side, she can’t lift her big heavy butt out of the water so we have to help her out.

Here’s how it all went down:

Our local animal control provided buckets full of free water toys, including frisbees and tennis balls for the dogs to play with. Truckee’s favorite though is the frisbee – she is like a magnet to that thing!

But sometimes she just can’t make up her mind, and we’d catch her retrieving multiple toys at once. Such a hoarder!

We had to practically beg her to sit and rest and take a breather. She was going non-stop and wasΒ so excited to be in the water! This is like going to Disney World for her I’m pretty sure!

She also got to hang with her gal-pal, Clover. I still can’t believe we were able to get them to sit still long enough to get a picture.

When we got home, we finally tried out a new bag of treats I received from chewy.com as part of their blogger program! The Boo Bars by Blue Buffalo are small baked treats, flavored with pumpkin and cinnamon, and filled with nutrients. They pack ingredients like: oatmeal, barley, pumpkin, flaxseed, carrots, and cinnamon. They are also corn, wheat, and soy free.

They’re only available for a limited time, so order some soon if you’re interested! Truckee LOVES them, and even swallowed a few of them whole. They smell like fall, and I’m excited to have a new tasty treat for her as the BEST SEASON OF THE YEARΒ approaches!

We turned 35 weeks yesterday, and you know what is GETTING REAL. Can. Not. Believe. It. I’ve got a couple giveaways and reviews coming up, so stay tuned!

How was your weekend? Does it feel like fall where you are? Is your dog a swimmer? Have you tried these seasonal treats yet for your pup?

Truckee looks so happy! We used to take our dogs to the dog park all the time pre-kids, I miss doing that! They loved swimming and running around like maniacs!

So fun!! You know, we’ve never taken her to an actual dog park, but I bet she’d love it. She is such a social butterfly!

That doggie pool party is seriously the cutest thing I have ever seen! I am not sure how Tebow would feel because he is NOT a water dog unfortunately Well, he should be since he is a lab but I don’t think he realizes that ha ha!

Oh and we bought boo bars for teb last year and he loved them! The seasonal treats are the best!

Oh my goodness, What a happy dog! My dog (a dachshund mix) hates water more than most cats! Not sure her short little legs would keep her afloat either. πŸ™‚ We feed her Blue Buffalo food and I’m sure she’d like these treats too!

This is an awesome idea – my pup would love that! She hasn’t tried those treats in particular, but she loves pumpkin treats (though she is a lab, so there isn’t much she won’t eat!)
