Sweet Summer Goals – The Summer of Us

This summer is going to be our last summer just the two of us. Our last summer to frolic and take road trips and day trips and lounge around without any REAL concerns. It’s kind of a weird thought, and I know October is going to be here in the blink of an eye, but I’m determined to still make this summer a summer to remember! (Of course being a hot sweaty pregnant mess will make it rememberable in and of itself) We aren’t traveling as much, and are more content staying closer to town these days, so maybe this will be the summer of Adam and Sarah, instead of 10 weddings and 13 other things we’ve committed to! I think it’s about time we spend more weekends just the two of us, instead of spreading ourselves so thin.

Realistically, even though this summer is going to be mostly about the baby, there are several things I want just my husband and I to accomplish, and experience together. I also, believe it or not, am itching to participate in at least one 5K before it’s baby time! That might actually mean walking the whole thing, and I’m ok with that! I’ll take whatever I can get!

Let’s get to it. Here are my summer goals for 2015!

Have you been to Petit Jean? I had a great hike there one time when I was visiting my brother who lived in a little town just outside of Clarksville. Now he lives in Conway.

I have not, but my husband has several times! It’s about an hour from us! It looks beautiful though!

Strangely, our lists look incredibly similar! In this being our first Summer in Denver versus cities not surrounded by nature, my goals surround using and experiencing the outdoors as much as possible!

While we’re on the topic (not at all)… what’s NWA?

Northwest Arkansas 🙂 We live in Little Rock, which is in the middle part of the state. NWA just refers to the top left corner of the state where several smaller cities are clumped together. It’s where Wal-Mart is headquartered and the U of A ! And you guys are going to have a BLAST in Denver I bet!!! I can’t even imagine how many amazing adventures you will go on!!! I want to hear all about them! I’ve only been to Denver once and swore up and down I’d move there if I ever had the chance!

I LOVE this! My husband and I will be doing a lot of the same. I’d like to walk a 5k later this spring/summer too!

Woohoo! I still have yet to sign up for a 5k yet, but it’s definitely on my to-do list!

Bahaha, I love your mom’s suggestion! Yeah I hear you don’t get much of that once a bambino comes 😉

Aside from our upcoming cruise, we only have a few weekends “booked” this summer for out of town things. I’m excited about those but nothing is more appealing to me than a weekend chilling at home. I seriously love laying around. No shame. I can only imagine the laying around-ness that will take place when I get pregnant.

As far as a “goal”, I’m going to go with making walking to Starbucks with my husband a weekend thang. We go maybe once a month, and even though it’s already pretty brutal hot out, it gives us a lot of time in the outdoors and sippin on something sweet together. No phones allowed. 🙂

Sounds like you have a fun summer ahead of your! One of my goals is to spend more time at my neighborhood pool. I loved going to the pool growing up and need to get that back in my life this year.

Agreed!! We live within walking distance to a huge community pool, and I am determined to get my butt there at least a few times this summer!

Sarah, you and I are definitely on the same page. I keep thinking about 1) how big and probably uncomfortable I will be this summer, 2) how this is my husband and I’s LAST summer (for a very very very very long time) just the two of us, and 3) how precise this time is going to be. We have decided to make it a very low key summer, spending quality time together, and making our relationship and time together a priority above all else. Spur of the moment dates, walking and quiet time WITHOUT technology, and being able to say “no” to travel requests and events, are definitely at the top of my list.

Yes yes yes! I’m glad you understand 🙂 It’s going to be a special summer that’s for sure. Hard to believe what this time next year will look like! Isn’t that just crazy to think about?!
