Back to the grind after a busy and productive weekend! Here’s a quick recap before we jump into this weekend’s big training run.
Friday night before pizza night I broke out the new Mizuno WaveRider 18’s that I was sent to review on behalf of a sponsored campaign with Fitfluential. I freaking love these shoes. Love the color. Love the fit. Love the ride. Love them. If I could change one thing it would be to have the ability to order them in a quarter size larger. A half size would be too big, but currently I think they might be juuuuuuuust a smidgen too small. Such is life. Always between sizes. I’ll do an official review later this month, so stay tuned! Prettier pictures are on the horizon!
I mentioned on Instagram that they kind of remind me of my lacrosse cleats from high school. And probably because my cleats were Mizunos! I’ll explain more later.
I took off around our neighborhood after Adam graciously took a few awkward photos for me. At what point is it SUPER lame to just use a self timer. I think I’m almost to that point. I got in some good hills along the way, as well as a beautiful sunset behind Pinnacle Mountain. It looked like the mountain was glowing, and my soul thoroughly enjoyed the pretty view, fresh air, and reminder that God makes all things beautiful.
My splits were 8:34, 8:31, 8:52, and 8:37. Mile three was basically all uphill, and I would be lying if I said I didn’t stop to walk for a few seconds. I’m hoping the half in two weeks doesn’t kill me because I somehow forgot that it was a hilly course, and this was maybe the second time I’ve run hills recently. Ha! We shall see.
As soon as I got home it started pouring, and the weekend storms had begun. We spent the rest of Friday night eating pizza, and spending time together catching up on SNL.
Saturday we slept in, and then I went and did a mini family session between the stretches of rain. I’m really excited about how the images turned out, and will definitely share those with you once they’re up on my other blog! I ran by Chick-Fil-A afterwards and ate my weight in Chicken Minis. The rest of the day was spent cleaning and picking up the house because little did Adam know, I was throwing him a surprise party later that night! Muahaha.
Saturday night before the party, we went to our favorite local restaurant and ate dinner to celebrate Adam’s birthday. We dressed up, and ate way too much. Check out this spread:
When we got home, it was party time! Adam hangs out with this great group of guys almost every Monday night religiously, so I knew he would love having them be a part of his birthday celebration. So, I secretly invited them and their wives over to be at our house, hiding inside, when we came home. I hid the key, left all of the decorations hidden in the guest room so they could set them up while we were gone, and I think Adam was actually surprised when we walked in! I completely forgot to take pictures of the whole table itself, but here’s two bits of the cheesy fun.
You’re never too old for a surprise birthday party!
Ok, training run time!
Sunday afternoon I knew I needed to get in 10 miles, but after 10, I decided to make it 11 since I felt like I had been slacking lately. I really felt great the whole time, except for the first two miles which are always the hardest. I drank water every two miles, and ate 3 Gu Chomps throughout. I ran in the Mizuno Wave Rider 18 and got them covered in mud. I haven’t even taken photos of them yet for my review! AH! But, I was quite impressed. I haven’t decided yet if I’ll wear them for my race, or the Brooks that I’m more used to. I don’t want to switch things up too much, but I really liked how these felt! Here are my splits:
Mile 1 – 8:58
Mile 2 – 8:48
Mile 3 – 8:54
Mile 4 – 8:53
Mile 5 – 9:00
Mile 6 – 8:57
Mile 7 – 9:00
Mile 8 – 9:02
Mile 9 – 9:02
Mile 10 – 9:04
Mile 11 – 8:54
It really made me excited about the race in two weeks, but also really has me hoping I still feel this good and everything goes perfectly! Fingers crossed the race isn’t as misty, windy, and chilly as this run was.
I think that about wraps things up! Tonight’s workout was a beast, so I’ll be back tomorrow to chit chat about that! I also need ideas of what to wear for the Disney Marathon in January so put your thinking caps on kids!
How is your training going? Do you get nervous a week or two before big races? Are you a fan of surprises?
