I never shared this on Instagram, but you guys. I recently laced up my running shoes, popped in my headphones, and took off at sunset for a 30 minute run!
I know, shocking right? I mean geeze, it’s probably been since late April or early May that I’ve posted a workout! I think I’m finally getting back to a place where I feel like I can start working out again! Life is finally getting back into a routine, and we finally joined a new gym. I think I might try and hit it up every morning after I drop Adeline off, but before work gets started. I think that might be my best timeframe, but we’ll see!
So, back to my run. It felt SO good. Like so, so good. Now, I didn’t run the full 30 minutes ok? Don’t get your hopes up. I mostly did intervals, and stopped to walk just a few times to catch my breathe because #hellooutofshape. I still felt like a rockstar though, and it reminded me once again why it sucks all sorts of suck to take time off from exercise! So, just don’t do it, ok?
Even when I’m in really good shape, I love doing intervals. I feel like it presents my body with a new challenge every few minutes, and I never have time to really get comfortable. Plus in my head I think I burn more calories, but maybe that’s wishful thinking.
I really hope to inspire other working moms, who have fallen off the wagon, and show the real side of getting back in shape. It’s hard, and it’s even harder to just find the time and energy to make it happen. I know everyone says working moms and SAHM’s are both tired, yada yada, and I totally agree. But if we’re being honest, until you’ve spent 8 hours jamming through emails and conference calls before going straight into mom mode until bedtime, you just can’t know the kind of tired I’m talking about. It’s just different. That’s all there is to it. Not better, not worse. It’s a different kind of tired and your mind is a different kind of mush. So squeezing in time to go to the gym only complicates things and can be really hard to stick with, as evidenced by umm, this blog.
I’m a 2X marathoner, but exercising and staying in shape as a mom has been harder than all 26.2 miles, twice over.
Aside from my sunset run, we’ve been taking family walks almost every night. And more recently, I’ve been heading out for a long stroll after the babe goes to sleep. With it being so flippin’ hot here during the days, once the sun starts to set it feels dreamy outside and is so much more enjoyable! I’ve also been wearing my Fitbit more (hey add me as a friend!) so I’m extra motivated to get my steps in for the day. (And btw, when you sit all day for work, you realize pretty quickly that 1,500 steps a day ain’t gonna cut it, ha!)
I’m excited to start back on my journey, and I have lots of goals in mind. I’m really anxious to get back to strength training, and get my arm strength back. I’ll be sure to try and document my workouts on my Insta stories, @sweetmilesblog, so be sure to follow along if you’re in need of some motivation!
What do you look forward to when getting back in shape? What’s one of your fitness goals?
