WHAT?! I. Know. I’m shocked too. I can’t even believe it.
Tuesday night I hit the gym after I almost convinced myself to instead lay on the couch and continue my Gilmore Girls Netflix binge. I’ve been trying really hard to work my way through the old seasons of Gilmore Girls so I can watch the new season. It’s a slow go, because well, these first two seasons have been soooo slooowww but I’m holding on hope that it picks up!
Anyways, off to the gym I went after a little encouragement from Adam. I knew I really needed to run, which I think is why I was so dreading gym time, but it’s a necessary evil these days.
I ran 4 miles, at an increasing pace each time. The first two miles I ran non stop, at 9:40, and 9:30. The last two miles I split up into half mile sprints, and bumped up the speed a little each interval and stopped at 8:57 for the very last leg. After cardio, I did strength training, and wore.my.butt.out.
- 2 x 12 lat pull downs
- 3 x 12 row machine
- 2 x 12 chest press
- 15 laying leg curl
- 12.5 lb dumbbell exercises:
- 40 shoulder press (sets of 10 on each arm)
- 40 bicep curls (same)
- 2 x 12 overhead tricep extensions
- 2 x 12 stamping dumbbell upright row
- 2 minutes box step ups (the box that’s a little above my knees in height)
I conquered a huge silly fear during this workout because I finally walked over in front of all the big macho guys and grabbed my dumbbells. For some reason doing free weights at the gym is SO intimidating. I don’t know what it is, it’s just intimidating to walk over in front of the wall of mirrors, and feel like everyone is staring at you. Of course really nobody is, but it feels that way! I grabbed two 12.5 dumbbells though and told myself to suck it up because literally no one there cares what I do and it’s all 100% in my head! Mission accomplished. So, suck it up buttercup and just do it!
Last night, since I did strength training on Tuesday, I opted for a major cardio night. My plan was simple, hop on the bike and ride 10 miles in under 45 minutes, then hit 13.1 if I felt like it. So then I hit 10, felt good, kept going to 13.1, but then I realized I was at like 400 calories and thought I could hit 500 calories if I kept going so I did! Boom. 15 miles, 500 calories. GONE!
The entire time I was riding, I was watching the row of people in front of me on the recumbent bikes and not a single one of them A. programmed their bikes for accuracy or B. wiped them clean when they were done. PSA: DO BOTH OF THESE THINGS PEOPLE!
One more workout for the week to go. The #strongmom journey continues…
What types of free weight exercises do you like to do? Are you a germ freak that wipes their machine down before and after?
