Staple Stocking Stuffers for a 2 Year Old

I received the coloring book featured in this post for free from Zondervan as part of my participation with the Z Blog Squad.

One of my favorite parts about Christmas with Adeline is getting to pick out fun little stocking stuffers. They don’t have to be special or “cool” and no matter how cheap they are, Adeline will still have a blast digging through her stocking on Christmas morning. Stockings are like the icing on the cake – like an added bonus on top of all the big stuff. Growing up, we always did stockings very last, but Adam always did them first, so we’re still trying to figure out what works best for our new little family. Either way, we always look forward to them.

Most of the time our stocking stuffers are very budget friendly and easy to find. We try to stick to a budget for each, but sometimes it’s just whatever we happen to find, when we happen to find it! The past few years we’ve been trying to be a little more practical with our stocking gifts, but sometimes the best stocking stuffers are the most random and unexpected! You can’t go wrong with a little Silly Putty and Beano, #amiright.

I thought I’d make a brainstorming list of stocking stuffer ideas for two year olds. I’m almost done with Adeline’s stocking, and actually, I have too much to fit in it already so I’ll probably just set the extras out with the gifts from Santa. I wanted to make sure her stocking this year was full of things she would actually use and enjoy, including a fun new coloring book I know she’s going to love. (She’s only two after all, so I could put a bag of fruit snacks and some fresh crayons and she’d be happy as a clam!) Finding stocking stuffers for a two year old is so much fun, but hopefully this list will help you narrow it down to some “staples” you just can’t leave out of the mix!

  • Play Doh – cheap, cheap, cheap!
  • Stickers – hit up the dollar spot at Target
  • A Fun Bath Toy – Walmart! I grabbed this little Minnie bath squirter a few weeks ago for maybe $1?
  • A Christmas Book – literally anywhere this time of year!
  • Fun Holiday Sippy Cup – Walmart or Target, the Santa one pictured is from Walmart, also $1
  • Yearly Ornament – I get Adeline a jingle bell every Christmas, but including your child’s special ornament in their stocking is always a great idea!
  • Favorite Snack – we love Annie’s fruit snacks or some fun Trader Joe’s holiday treats
  • Window Gel Clings – Walmart or dollar spot at Target
  • New Crayons or Markers – anywhere
  • Wipes, Lotion, Hand Sanitzer, etc. – anywhere, maybe some cute Honest ones
  • Flash Cards – Target or Amazon, we love Brain Quest for ages 2-3
  • Socks or Leggings – Target
  • New Bow or Bow Tie – my current favorite bow shop is Simply Sweet Bows (Instagram)
  • Small Toy Car – our Kroger actually has a huge toy section and they have tons of cheap Sesame Street cars and Mattel little race cars
  • New Coloring Book – Amazon, specifically this one from Zondervan Kids

I wanted to expand a bit on this coloring book because it’s so perfect for gently introducing Bible stories to littles while they do one of their favorite activities. It’s full of fun scenes to color, with a brief paraphrasing of scripture. In total, there are 32 stories included!

Even though Adeline is only two, I still think she’ll enjoy looking through the coloring book, and we can read it together while she colors. I love that the pictures are unique and large and provide such a great space to be creative while coloring something meaningful.

The Books of the Bible My Bible Story Coloring Book is just another great way to include something in their stocking that ties in the reason for the season.

Hopefully this list helps! There’s just a few more weeks to squeeze in that last minute shopping!

What would you add? Do you include something specific every year? Do you even do stockings at all? When do you open your stockings?

These are great! I have always loved stockings and have been having a great time finding little things for the babies stockings.

We always do an ornament in stockings. Most years Rich and I just do stockings for each other and this week we are going on a splurge date instead of gifts! In B’s stocking I’m putting his ornament, window clings (the same ones actually), a moon torch, a water wow pad and maybe some other things I find in the dollar spot!
