Saturday Morning Bikeathon + Modest is the Hottest

Happy Monday!

Popping in real quick to share my weekend recap and a few thoughts from the Superbowl last night! How was your weekend? Did you do anything exciting? Did you race? Tell me about it!

Friday afternoon was a half day at work, well, sort of. We worked a half day, then our agency headed downtown to the Museum of Discovery for an afternoon of fun. We were tasked with building a long chain reaction, using only the tools provided. Needless to say, it was a blast. After our time at the museum, we ended the workday with happy hour at new (ish) local brewery, Lost 40 Beer.

Friday night we went over to a friend’s house for dinner, where we stuffed ourselves to the brim with the best venison steaks and whipped sweet potatoes with goat cheese. Mmm, I’m going to need to recreate them asap! Saturday morning I slept in until 9, and it was glorious. Oh my goodness, I could have slept all day probably. After eating so much the night before, I just felt like I needed to go sweat. Waking up still feeling full and slobbish is a gross feeling, and I knew I would not be productive at all if I didn’t squeeze in a workout. I headed to the gym thinking it would be pretty empty, and when I got there around 10, it was packed!

I took my iPad and watched the new episode of How to Get Away with Murder and then started the new episode of Grey’s Anatomy. Why have I never taken my iPad to the gym before??? Biking was so much more fun while watching something I actually wanted to watch! I knocked out 13 miles in about 55 minutes, and felt like I could do more, but didn’t want to push it. When I hopped off, my legs were perfectly wobbly and I was drenched in sweat.

I headed home and made a delicious and filling lunch: grilled cheese, tomato soup, and avocado! I made my grilled cheese with avocado on it as well, and it was SO good!! This weekend was obviously a weekend of firsts. I’ll never make another plain grilled cheese again!

After lunch, I attached a few chores, then took Truckee out to play. She’s been cooped up all week and I knew she’d be excited to get a run in as well! We headed over to the local high school and played fetch on their practice football field.

Truckee has far exceeded every hope and expectation of the joy that owning a big dog would bring. She is simply the best.

The rest of Saturday was spent cleaning, relaxing, and curling up on the couch for a date night movie. We watched The Fugitive, and it was every bit of fantastic as my 90’s self remembered.

Sunday morning we slept in, then headed to church and out to run a few errands before going to a super bowl party with our small group. Ok, let’s talk about the Superbowl. Nope, not the game. Could care less. Not the commercials, already saw most of them anyways before the big game. Let’s talk about Katy Perry’s performance!

Did anyone else love it as much as I did?!

Aside from her solid performance, I was VERY impressed by her outfits!! I was envisioning super skanky outfits, barely there garments, and way too much skin. But I was wrong and pleasantly surprised! She was incredibly modest, as modest as you can be during a SB Halftime Show performance I’d say, and she rocked it! I definitely think she earned major respect points from me! She could have been way more risque, but I am so, so impressed that she honored the fact that millions and millions of FAMILIES were watching, and she didn’t parade around in over-the-top-sexual outfits. You go, Katy Perry.

Do you ever take your tablet to the gym? What did you do this weekend? What did you think about the halftime show?

I watch Netflix on my phone a lot at the gym! I watched Grey’s on Thursday night because I was so excited for its return but usually I watch that at the gym as well. We just got a black lab puppy and he is so much fun. I really think labs have the best personalities. Truckee is beautiful! I agree 100% on the halftime show. I’m not a huge Katy Perry fan but I think she had the best performance I’ve seen in a long time. I have so much respect for women (and men) who don’t use their bodies as a way to increase popularity.

Katy Perry’s sharks totally stole the show for me haha. I don’t know that any half-time show will ever compare to Beyonce, but last night was still pretty good!

At our SB party last night, we were all talking about how surprised we were by the half-time show. Neither the dance moves and the outfits were risqué, which is definitely different for a change! I wonder how much say she has in the outfits she wears and the choreography for the Super Bowl (since she’s usually not opposed to showing some skin but maybe she wanted to keep it family-friendly?)

Good point! I feel like she was probably told to keep it somewhat family friendly!

I loved Katy Perry! She’s one of my favorite artists and her show was the best halftime performance in many years.

Mine too! I don’t usually pay much attention to the superbowl thing in general, but I really enjoyed it!

I’m glad you brought your iPad to the gym, I used to do that a lot! Do you ride the normal stationary bike or do the recumbent? Since I ride my bike all over, I do the recumbent when I need to do a workout but I don’t need to think about it, and it works the booty which is always a plus in my book. But since the semester started, I’ve been taking spin classes at least twice a week and LOVING it. I also do a PiYo class twice a week too (pilates and yoga) and this morning I was the only person in there so I got to have a private pilates lesson, it was fantastic! Do you still do yoga? Wow this comment is hyperactive, sorry ’bout that!

I ride the regular one! I don’t feel like the recumbent one works anything! At least for me. I would LOVE to try PiYo, I just haven’t gotten around to it yet! Glad you like it! And no yoga in a while, my membership ran out and I lost motivation to renew it + drive all the way to the studio enough to be worth it haha! I will probably do another month this summer though! 🙂

I was so impressed with her outfit and make up changes in a matter of seconds! I just am so curious how they made that happen!
