This weekend my parents came to visit, and it could not have come at a better time. I hadn’t seen my parents in 6 weeks, which means they hadn’t seen Adeline since she was 2 weeks old!! She’s practically a different baby now! It’s just amazing. I don’t think about it as much on a day-to-day basis, but when I look at pictures from the last time they were in town, it’s crazy how much A has grown! (BRB, need to go cry real quick!!!!!)
Since Adam and I rotate family Christmas every year, it’s nice to try and still sneak in a mini-Christmas weekend celebration with the other family if time allows. So this year, Santa Pence loaded up his sleigh (truck) and made the trek to Arkansas to come see us. We missed my brother and his sweet family, so it was a small crowd, but we’ll do Christmas with them next time we’re in town.
We had a small window of opportunity to open gifts and enjoy the quiet during one of her naps, but we managed to make it happen. I didn’t take very many pictures, something that both kills me and makes me much more relaxed. While I barely have time to take pictures with my nice camera + upload them + edit them, I’m trying to make a conscious effort to at least take a handful of quality photos for memory book purposes. And it still makes my photographer heart happy, something I hope to get back to one day. Eventually! I spent so long taking pictures of other people’s families that now that I have my own, it’s so hard to remember to do the same!
The majority of gifts this year were practical or centered around Adeline. Win-win! I gifted my parents plenty of pictures and knick-knacks of their sweet granddaughter, which of course was a hit!
Adeline received a couple cute new outfits, plus a few little books and small toys for the coming months, nothing too crazy. Favorite baby gift of the day? Her Tervis sippy cup!! Who knew Tervis even made sippy cups?? We are going to be Tervis twinkies and I am so excited. Oh and those pink Baby Gap jeans? FLEECE LINED! Baby girl is going to be stylin’ and super warm!
2 things. 1. We are blanket hoarders, so ignore the pile of blankets behind me. And 2. The slingshot next to Adam has already been put to good use. No woodpecker or squirrel stands a chance in our backyard!
Once Adeline was up, it was time to open her stocking! Except, this lasted all of two seconds, so we didn’t really open her stocking until later that night. BUT, Santa Pence brought her some cute little goodies, none of which she will remember. Ha! Mama loved it though. Obsessed.
Also, it was not cold or else I would have put socks on my poor child. Don’t worry!
The rest of the afternoon was spent playing with A, cleaning up the Christmas remnants, and getting ready to go out on a date.
Adam and I headed off to dinner by ourselves for the first time since the night before Adeline was born!! It was so nice to get away just the two of us and spend some quality time together! It was definitely much needed, and I already can’t wait to go out again!! We ate dinner at Outback, then ran an errand to Target. Living. It. Up.
Being away from Adeline for a few hours was weird. I kept telling Adam that it just felt weird. Before I had her, and I was pregnant, it was obvious that were having a child. And then being out without her, it was like no one knew that I had a sweet little girl waiting for me at home and we were out living this double life. It felt like the old “us”, but different at the same time. There are just so many new feelings and emotions I feel like I’m still sorting through. Does that even make sense??
After dinner, we drove around our neighborhood looking at Christmas lights, and enjoying being just the two of us again. It was wonderful.
When we got home, Adeline was ready to start her bedtime routine, and my parents were thrilled to have gotten some alone time with her. All grandparents need some good alone time with their grandbabies I think, especially those who live far away!
That about wraps it up! Baby girl is stirring from her nap, so it’s time to go! I’m hoping hoping hoping I can make it to the gym one time before Christmas festivities start later this week, fingers crossed!!!!
I’m also hoping to jump back on here and share some things we are loving lately! We’ve definitely gotten into a decent routine, which has included the same things over and over again. I’ll be back to share soon!
I will leave you with Adeline smiles, because she just started smiling BIG smiles and I can barely handle it!
How was your weekend? What are you doing for Christmas?
