Purina Pro Plan: Keeping Miss Truckee Healthy on the Go

It’s no secret that we are a travelin’ family. In fact, we travel so much that our goal this year is to not travel as much. We shall see how that actually plays out, though. And since we travel so often, our pup almost always comes with us. I’m pretty sure it would break my heart to board her, so she has become a pro at long car rides and sleeping at her grandparents’ homes! Traveling with a 90 lb dog has its struggles, but we think we’ve perfected her routine and have established her “diaper bag” necessities. We like to think of it as child prep.

Recently I, or rather Truckee, was given the chance to try out a new (to us) brand of dog food, Purina® Pro Plan®. I’m always on the hunt for great, high quality performance dog food for Truckee and want to make sure she’s getting the nutrition she needs to live a long and healthy life, so I was super excited to incorporate a new food into her daily eats. And since we travel so much, we like for her to eat food that we hope will be easy on her tummy, taste good, and keep her healthy and strong. So, to get things started, we took a family field trip to PetSmart! Guess who was the most excited!! PetSmart has always been our go-to for dog supplies, and Truckee always loves roaming the aisles with us. Everyone is always so friendly, and Truckee’s options are limitless! It’s like a little slice of Heaven for her.

When we got there, Truckee first insisted on picking out a pet fish but we had to tell her no. Then, we headed straight to the dry dog food aisle to let her pick out her new food! You know, there’s only about a million different kinds of dog food out there, so picking the right one for your dog can be tough. Luckily, the Purina® Pro Plan® packaging made it super easy to sort through what we wanted, what we thought Truckee would like, and what would be best for her in the long run. We also loved the fact that purchasing a smaller bag was an option. We love having a “travel sized” dog food to take with us on road trips.

We narrowed it down to two options, and let her make the final call. We used a very scientific method, placing both bags at the end of the aisle, and letting her to run to whichever one she wanted.

Purina® Pro Plan® Natural Grain Free! A girl after her mother’s own heart. I was so excited to get her on a more natural dog food! I can’t wait to see its benefits! Also, there’s a yellow lab on the bag..come on, it only made sense.

We headed home, anxious to begin the process of switching foods. Eek!

Ok so, let’s go back to her “diaper bag.” Every time we travel with Truckee, and every time she stays the night at a friend’s house if we’re gone, we keep all of her things together in one place. We always include a few staples: her leash and harness obviously, but also a bone, a bag of treats, her furminator, and her food! When the “diaper bag” comes out, she knows it’s time for a trip or a slumber party. Typically, her food just gets thrown into an old shopping bag, but her new Purina® Pro Plan® will fit perfectly into the bag for our next upcoming travels!

Once it was finally dinner time, we let Truckee dig in. (We mixed in a little of her previous dog food to be safe. You never want to switch foods cold turkey!)

If she had thumbs, she would give it two thumbs up.

This is so adorable! I love how Truckee ‘chose’ her own! 🙂 Tebow eats Blue Buffalo and we have always had a great experience. He very rarely has tummy troubles which is so nice!

You know, we’ve never tried Blue Buffalo! No real reason why, I think because we just never started on it when she was little! Truckee is the most high maintenance diva dog on the planet. I’m not sure Tebow could handle her 😉 she has to have a snack before bedtime (or she’ll throw up in the middle of the night) and her water HAS to be luke warm or hot. If it’s cold she will instantly throw it up. She’s insane!

Oh my gosh, what a cute post! I love that you got her to look at the camera in the pics with the bags of food.
And yes, Coco travels with us all the time. We hate leaving her behind! Luckily we can usually find decent hotels that allow dogs so it’s not too bad.

How is Coco doing?? Did you get your results back? And we have never taken Truckee to a hotel…I’m curious how that would go!
