Pregnancy: Week 15 + Maternity Clothes Shopping

It’s hard to believe we’re already 15 weeks and almost into May! I feel like when we found out in mid-February that May seemed so far away, probably because I spent the first three months on the couch or with my head in a toilet. But, we are now finally on the brink of summer!! I can’t believe we’re just 5 weeks from being HALF-WAY!!!

Here’s my 15 week update…

15 weeks pregnant

The end of week 14 proved to be a challenge, both mentally and physically. My morning sickness hit again pretty hard, after about a week of feeling allllllmost back to normal. It hit again last night out of the blue, but I’ve just decided that it’s going to linger a bit longer than I thought and to just go with it! It will eventually stop, hopefully!

Other than that, I’m feeling pretty good! I’m getting more and more excited to find out the gender in just a few weeks!!! I’ve had mostly girl dreams, but I did have a random boy dream a few nights ago. It seems like everyone around me is having boys! I would be thrilled with either, and have the perfect boy name picked out, but girl names on the other hand are still TBD! As far as guesses go, I would say 80% of people we talk to are riding the pink train, so we’ll see if the majority is correct.

Our next appointment is at 18.5 weeks for some genetic testing, which I haven’t decided yet if I want to do or not. If it’s not mandatory and if insurance doesn’t cover it, I’m not positive what we’ll do. I’m assuming it’s required though. Then after that, our big anatomy scan is at 20 weeks! Can’t believe this appointment is on the calendar! Even though I’d be ok waiting to find out the gender until then, I’ll be spending memorial day weekend back home with family and really wanted to be able to get some fun shopping done with my mom! I only get so many weekends with her! So, we are going to go to another ultrasound tech in a week or two and find out the gender a little early. I CAN’T WAIT!!!!

Now that the bump is starting to become obvious, it’s about that time. This momma is in desperate need of some new clothes!

Maternity Clothes Shopping

I’ve had a hard time finding much of anything that I actually like because a lot of maternity wear just looks frumpy. I imagine this summer I’ll be living in maxi skirts and dresses, and comfy tanks. But for work, I’m going to need a staple pair of jeans, maybe some white skinnies, and a few casual tops to throw on. I’ve got a gift card for Target and Old Navy, so those are my starting points. Here are a few basics I’ve bookmarked online that I think could be good options for day-to-day wear, and last throughout several months of pregnancy. I’m thinking my money will be best spent on a minimal wardrobe consisting of a few items that are staple pieces I can get a lot of use out of, and items I could wear some after baby comes when things haven’t quite deflated. 😉

I’ll keep you updated on what I end up choosing! I can still make 75% of my current wardrobe work, but I know that clock is ticking!

I’ve also recently discovered Pink Blush Maternity. I’ve been dyyyyying over how cute some of their maternity dresses and tops are! I think PMB will be my go-to for picking out special dresses for baby showers and maternity photos. Everything on their site is so pretty and girly and FLATTERING!

Just for kicks, here are three of my absolute faves!

Looking great! I finally bit the bullet and bought some jeans from Old Navy on Friday. I made it almost 16 weeks but pants are getting tight. I actually need to buy more as I’m struggling in all pants I have right now and I can’t wear jeans every day. I would love a pair of white skinnies too. I’m excited for you to find out the gender! We find out in just a few weeks and I can’t even wait! I’m hoping to get some great sales Memorial Day weekend, too 😉 My mom wouldn’t let me go into the baby outlets on Friday because I wouldn’t get her out, haha! Hope the morning sickness leaves you soon!

When I was pregnant the doctor wanted to do an amniocentesis. The chances of having a Down’s syndrome baby were high (I was an older mom). The chances of miscarriage from the procedure were also high. Since I wouldn’t have done anything with the results (in other words I would not have terminated the pregnancy) I decided not to have the procedure. My daughter is fine.

You look adorable! When I was pregnant, I really didn’t get too many maternity clothes, I stuck to ainimum of essentials and added accesories, shoes and open cardigans to change it up. It’s so funny that the boys name came so easily to you, since we has the perfect girls name and found out it was a boy! It wasn’t until around 38 weeks we decided on a name!

I love Target’s maternity clothes! I always catch myself eyeing something in that section only to have to remind myself that I am not pregnant haha!

You look great! If you are concerned about the genetic testing, you should definitely discuss it with your doctor. If you’re not high-risk, it shouldn’t be mandatory. I only say that because I didn’t want to do it (I’d heard that false positives are common and I didn’t want to worry), and my doctor completely understood, said that a lot of people my age usually opt out, and never questioned me again.

I have several of those maternity items that you pictured — the Old Navy tank, shirt and maxi dress, and the t-shirt dress from Target. I like them! I also have the side panel shorts from Old Navy and really like those. I’m still wearing my regular clothes to work also, but I know I’ll probably have to buy new dress pants soon — I’m kind of dreading that!

Ahh so excited that you are going to know if it’s a boy or a girl so soon! It really has helped make the pregnant feel even more ‘real’ for me 🙂

We chose not to do the genetic testing, and I agree with Emily that it usually isn’t mandatory unless it is a high risk pregnancy or mature age. It’s definitely a personal choice 🙂

I got my first Pink Blush items in the mail last night and I LOVE THEM! I got a black maxi and three of their long tunic tops. All are super cute and fit nicely. I also had great luck with Motherhood and LOFT! You should see my guest room right now… full of returns because I ordered a ton planning that I wouldn’t like a lot of it. And I was right!

I would highly suggest finding some comfy jeans, skirt and a dress – they will be staples for you. My favorite jeans were from GAP and then I snagged dresses from Old Navy, tanks from Pea in the Pod and filled in with items from Target (depending on what they had out at the time). If there is one thing I know about pregnancy it is that you want to feel good!
