Personal Fitness Assessment

Hey there! Last night I squeezed in a mid-week workout that went a little something like this…

cardio session

I warmed up on the treadmill, running 1 mile, 8:49 pace. I could tell that I’d been letting off on the running lately, but not enough to feel completely out of shape. After a quick run, I hopped on the bike to finish out my cardio. I did 6 miles, at varying resistances. It’s been fun to notice how my legs are getting used to biking, and levels that I used to think were tough, are becoming easier and easier to peddle through. Before I left for the night, I finished my sweat session with a round of weights, primarily my favorites – lat bar, leg press, and lying leg curl (you know, the one where you lay on your stomach and everyone stares at your butt).

For dinner, Adam whipped up a DELICIOUS Chicken Philly sandwich! Holy yums. With a side of Reese’s. Because Wednesday.

Tonight I’m headed back to the gym for an official personal fitness assessment!! Our gym offers free one-time assessments to all its members, so it would be silly to pass it up. I couldn’t even tell you the last time I had a “physical” done, or even met with a personal trainer. I don’t even think I’ve ever met with a personal trainer come to think of it! I’m excited and nervous to see what kind of routine she puts me through, and I’m hoping she doesn’t kill me! I have a feeling she probably will kick my tail though, but I’m hoping I’ll at least get a solid idea of where I stand overall. Adam did his several months ago, and it seemed to be both eye opening, and obvious. He readily admitted how tough the workout was though, so I know mine will be tough too. I know she’ll also probably take my blood pressure, weigh me, measure flexibility, etc. as well.

I’ll be sure to fill you all in on how it goes! I imagine I will be sore tomorrow, because while I do a lot of cardio and strength training on occasion, I’m not exactly the “strongest” girl at the gym! Heck, I don’t even know the names of half the machines! AHH! Tonight is going to be interesting to say the least!! Fingers crossed!

Did you work out last night? Should I tell the trainer I’m a runner or leave that part out? Should I be nervous? Have you ever had a personal fitness assessment done? How did it go?

Maybe I also won’t tell her I ate half a pint of ice cream Tuesday night and a Reese’s Egg for dessert last night.

Love Reese’s eggs (and Christmas trees)! Whoever came up with those was the best marketer ever, because they’re pretty much impossible to resist. Excited hear how the assessment goes– it sounds really cool!

Right? I don’t even know why regular round Reeses peanut butter cups still exist. Hearts, eggs, and christmas trees are way better.

When I was a part of 10, I too advantage of their fitness assessments and was happy I did. Yes, I did have to work my way out of them trying to get me to buy a personal training package, but it was free so whatever. I think they just weighed me and then tested my body fast percentage (with that nifty hand-held thing!) and then did a short workout, though he had me lifting weights and I felt ready to die. Then he asked lots of health related questions and what my current fitness regiment was, eating patterns, goals, favorite gym activities, etc. It was pretty painful, definitely worth it! Now that I’m back at my school’s gym, which also offers free assessments, I’m planning on getting another assessment done before the semester so I can compare it to how I was back in December!

Oh yum. Reese’s eggs! I love, love, love the white chocolate Reese egg.
Good luck on the assessment. I’m a nerd for that kind of thing. Oh, and tell the trainer you are practicing “balance” in your life through meals….hence the consumption of Reese egg. ☺

Oh yeah. They’re Epic (IMO). In fact, I just received some for V-day from the hubby (yes, easter eggs for V-day, they’re that good.) Try it, you won’t be disappointed. 🙂

Ahh the Reese egg! Nothing beats those things, not even gourmet peanut butter cups!
Can’t wait to hear about your assessment, regardless of what they say I love doing them, so cool to have a starting point to and then do a second one to see how far you have come!

I actually just had a personal fitness assessment done at my university’s gym last week, and it was really useful! They did body fat percentage, sit and reach, VO2 max, push ups, sit ups, and blood pressure/resting heart rate measurements. It was really good to see where I fit in what is considered healthy. Also, it helped me realize how much variation there can be in what is considered “healthy”! I think you’ll like the experience. 🙂
