Life With a 6-9 Month Old: What’s In My Diaper Bag

**This morning I woke up with such a heavy and broken heart in light of not just the events of this week, but now the tragedy in Dallas. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of everyone involved, and I’m forever thankful that this world is not our home. An eye for an eye is not the answer we need. Lord please be with us and let us learn to LOVE one another.**

I think one of the most challenging parts about being a new mom is GOING PLACES WITH A BABY. In the early days, it can be so intimidating, and then once you’ve got the newborn days down pat, the baby starts to spit up more and you realize you need to pack extra everything. Then once that gets under control, the baby turns into a wild child that won’t sit still and you need to pack distractions and toys. And then the list goes on. And eventually you feel like you’ve packed your whole house in your diaper bag. Anyone else??

I’ve seen these types of lists on Pinterest and on other blogs, and I thought I’d share a quick look at what’s in my own diaper bag. Adeline is a little over 8 months old, so to me she’s in that sweet spot of wiggly baby and full on mobile baby! I’m a planner, and an over-packer, so my diaper bag tends to be overflowing with things I may not necessarily need everyday, but after many-a-blowouts-in-inconvenient-places and many-a-projectile-spit-ups, I’ve learned that there’s no harm in stuffing that diaper bag with everything you could possibly need in a pinch!

So here we go.

Disclaimer: it’s not always this full, but when it is, this is what’s probably crammed in there.

what to carry in diaper bag

  • SkipHop portable changing pad stocked with at least 3 diapers and 2 travel packs of Honest wipes (this diaper bag does actually come with a portable changing pad but we accidentally left it at one of our first doctor’s visits and never found it!) *This is also awesome if you go somewhere and you don’t want to carry in the whole diaper bag.
  • SkipHop highchair cover
  • 2 extra outfits/onesies
  • 1 extra shirt for me
  • 1 muslin swaddle blanket
  • 2 burp cloths
  • 1 bandana bib
  • 1 sun hat
  • Sunglasses for A
  • “Indestructibles” book (s)
  • Boogie Wipes
  • Quiet book (the puppy book)
  • Chew toys
  • Taggie blanket toy
  • Extra paci/paci clip
  • Extra neutral bows
  • EOS lip balm for me
  • Baby Orajel
  • Diaper rash cream(s) (because I’ve found that what we prefer depends on how bad the rash is)
  • Snacks for A – Baby Mum Mums & Puffs
  • Purell
  • Clutch for me
  • Not pictured: 1 hidden diaper for emergencies

Hope that helps! I’m sure I’m forgetting something but I’ve found that what I pack on a regular basis can change from occasion to occasion, and month to month.

Great list Sarah! We got a highchair cover not too long ago and I love it. The cover fits both a highchair + grocery cart seat so it gets a ton of use and makes me feel better when Jack is trying to chew everything lol!

Yes!! They are so wonderful! I never registered for one because I honestly thought they were such a waste of money, but it is nice to just have something CLEAN for her to sit on when we’re using highchairs and carts at such public places!

Your diaper bag is super cute. I need to go through my diaper bag and take somethings out, it’s way too full right now.

Thanks girl! It’s both a blessing and a curse – sometimes I cram it to the brim and it’s so heavy, but it can carry SO MUCH STUFF!

My diaper bag is so simple. I have diapers, wipes, poop bags, an outfit change, a few toys, a changing pad, hand sanitizer and a snack! 🙂 So far so good!

Simple really is the way to go! My bag gets SO heavy, but I feel like we’ve had so many incidents where we were caught without something we needed that now I’m scared to go without too much! I just ordered a cute little monogrammed backpack for Adeline, so maybe I’ll start using that 🙂
