national running day…yesterday…

Oh look! I’m behind again, as usual! Yesterday was National Running Day and I wanted to be SURE and join in the fun and express my sentiments.

I loved reading all of the blog posts on why YOU run, and there seems to have been a pretty good turnout for the glorious day that it was! I personally didn’t partake in anything too epic but thoroughly enjoyed my quicky run that I squeezed in at the gym!

I was really hoping to run outside and get some sun, but it was ridiculously hot so I opted for some AC. I hopped on the treadmill, and instantly my mood went from “YEA RUNNING!” to… “MEH.” On National Running Day too!

I have no idea what came over me! It was just “one of those moods,” probably because I knew I had 50 million things waiting on me at home. I hate when my mind starts thinking about my “to-do” list before I’ve gotten a chance to get in my running zone, grr! (Anyone else have that problem on super busy days??) I knew I was in a hurry so to get more out of it I decided to turn it into a speed workout and get my sweat on instantly. That way I knew I’d stop thinking and just RUN! Perfect! Besides, when I’m running fast I don’t have TIME to think!

Mile 1- 7:47

Mile 1- 1.5- 7:31 pace

Mile 1.5-2- 7:06 pace

Getting sweat on = successful.

Even though I didn’t run for very long, I ran hard and still felt like I got a positive workout in, AND in the small amount of time I had. Sometimes you just have to work with the time you have! The speed felt great too!! I was super excited to have done it all under 8:00 paces!

Lime green all around! It seems to be a popular color around these parts.

Tonight, Truckee and I went on a nice 1.6 mile walk through the neighborhood. We waited until almost 7:30 when it felt amazing outside! She has become accustomed to this route because it’s partly the same way that Adam runs her, so when we first started running up the hill she started jogging and trying to get me to jog up the hill with her. If I had worn the appropriate clothing I would have joined in her happiness, but sadly I had to slow her down and tell her that we would just be walking. She eventually understood and settled into a brisk walk. It seriously makes me so happy that I have a dog that sits by the door and begs us to take her on runs and walks. She’s such an active sidekick!

Tomorrow we will be here…Beaver Lake, for a long weekend of 1 year anniversary RELAXATION!!!

Arkansas is FULL of beautiful parks, and outdoorsy things to do. No, it’s not just full of rednecks and rice fields. We’re excited to explore some more of our new state! I’m hoping to do some hiking or at least squeeze in a run, but no promises! It’s quite possible I’ll be glued to the dock by the water and miiiiight not make it to a running trail. If you want to see photos of our trip, they’ll probably be posted over at the ‘ole photog blog, here, since this blog is dedicated to my running antics 🙂

Currently, I’m reading this:

If you haven’t gotten a copy yet, you need to. It’s incredible. Very moving, inspirational, touching, and full of emotion.

Time to get packed up!

P.S. Truckee just farted, and I could smell it across the house. Dis-gusting. However, impressive for such a cute creature.

What do YOU do when you get on the treadmill and suddenly want to hop right off? How do you power thru?

You’re so lucky to have a dog that runs with you. Honestly I would ever be able to persuade our dog, Alfie, to come. He’d be waay too interested in smelling everything and drifting off into a bush.
I cannot stand the treadmill. It’s the quickest way to demotivate me. Nothing beats running outside in the fresh air for me. Even if it’s along roads. I just prefer to have a physical goal to reach.

Some days I really don’t feel like working out, so I do the same as you – try to get a quickie in and just call it a day.

It sounds like you were still super active, though! Your pup walk sounds really fun 🙂

Happy 1 Year Anniversary!!! Love how fast Truckee will run with you. My fur ball is slooooow.

If I hop on the treadmill and immediately want to hop off I make smaller goals. Run for another 2 minutes and then see how I feel. I can usually keep thing going until I’ve met my goal. It always feels better in the end :). Happy weekend!

I go through phases with the treadmill. Sometimes I love the ability to hop on and do a quick workout rain, snow or shine then sometimes it makes me want to crawl back in bed ASAP! I usually try to go when a good TV show is on if I’m not feeling that motivated.

Oh, this month’s RW had me in tears all over again! Thank goodness the gym I use has televisions built in to the dreadmills, so I just turn a show on and go. I never listen to music when I run, but sometimes I just have to crank some tunes and beast through the boring.

Ashley- Definitely!! I’m a fan of turning on an episode of Biggest Loser and running all the way thru it!

I have a slight obsession with my TM. I am trying to break up with her for the summer because I need to run outside and enjoy the sunshine. Running up some hills also wouldn’t hurt. 🙂
When I do run on my TM I usually watch TV shows on hulu to get me through the miles. I ran 24 miles on my TM back in April. I don’t recommend that.

Tasha- it’s hard sometimes for me to remember to run outside during the summer because it’s so hot!! but you’re right, you NEED the benefit of those hills every now and then! 24 miles?! Did you watch every single thing on Hulu?! Ha!
