It’s no secret I have a thing for the smaller holidays. (Like St. Patty’s Day, Easter, and the Fourth of July!) Smallidays, if you will. It hasn’t always been that way though, and it took having kids for me to really change my mind on whether or not celebrating these smaller holidays was really worth it! But, I just think it’s so much fun to embrace the day, and be festive and dorky as a family. I wouldn’t say we go all out by any means for every holiday, but I’d like to think we at least have fun.
This year, we get to include Barrett in our festivities! It’s his first Valentine’s Day, and I’m so excited to love on him a little extra. (If that’s even possible!) We’ll be doing our family V-day celebration after work tonight, including a yummy dinner, a heart themed dessert, and giving the kids their goody bags. I’m sure we’ll also find some cheesy movie on TV, and let Adeline color or craft something lovey-dovey.
For their goody bags, I picked up a handful of cute little items for each of them over the past month or so and I know they’re going to love digging into them. For Barrett’s bag, I stuck to a teething theme, and Adeline’s are mostly unicorn themed. Nothing fancy, or expensive, but one of my love languages is gifts and it’s just the sweetest to treat your littles to a fun little surprise! PS how cute is that rainbow teether for B? PERFECT for our rainbow baby boy!
One of my favorite things to also do each holiday is to take a few minutes to snap a few photos. I try to do this for almost every holiday, and love looking back at past holidays and seeing how much has changed. This year’s Valentine’s Day photos were cute and simple, and gosh I just love these babies of ours. For Adeline, I took her down to the field to model her new heart dress, and for Barrett, I snapped some indoors in his new jammies. Of course, I had to smother him in lipstick kisses, because if you have a baby boy on Valentine’s Day and you don’t smother him in lipstick kisses, is it really Valentine’s Day?!
I hope you enjoy celebrating V-day with your family, friends, kids, significant other, girlfriends, whomever you choose to celebrate with. I hope you feel loved, and the day brings you joy!
How are you celebrating Valentine’s Day or how have you celebrated in the past? Do you like to celebrate the small holidays or ignore them?
