Little Rock Downtown Dash 10K Recap

Hello, hello! First, THANK YOU for all of the birthday wishes!! You guys are too sweet!!

As I type this, I am trying not to exhaust my self, as this is the first time I’ve really sat up all day! Boo. Being sick is for the birds, and it always comes on at the least convenient time.ย No need to fear, hopefully I’ll be back to my semi-normal self tomorrow. But I highly doubt this silly cough will be going anywhere anytime soon. I genuinely HATE missing work, but a day home was much needed. This was my view most of the day:

Anyways, I wanted to finally tell you all about the 10k I did last Saturday!

Little Rock Downtown Dash 10k Recap

The Junior League of Little Rock put on the Downtown Dash 10/5k this past Saturday, March 15. The course was pretty familiar to me already, since a lot of it was run along the same route as the Little Rock Half Marathon recently. It was a pretty simple, flat course, which consisted of two 3.1 loops. I didn’t realize it was a two-loop course until about half way thru the first loop. Loops and out-and-backs aren’t my favorite, but it did make it easier mentally to pace myself for the next loop and know where I was headed!

Here were my stats from my Garmin:

6.37 mi
572 cals

mile 1 – 8:44

mile 2 – 9:11

mile 3 – 9:16

mile 4 – 8:55

mile 5 – 9:10

mile 6 – 8:51

.37 – 2:59

My official time though was 57:15.

I tried really hard this race to relax and not look at my watch too often. I didn’t set a real time goal, and told myself I wouldn’t try to PR. I think you can tell by my splits that I couldn’t quite make up my mind where I wanted to settle in, ~8:50 or ~9:10. Either way, I think I ran decent for not trying my best! It’s always nice to run a race just for fun every now and then!

Just as I turned the corner on the last quarter mile or so, my marathon finishing song came on, and helped me finish strong! I’m a firm believer in the right music is always the best way to help put a pep in your step!

That’s pretty much all there is to it! Shortest race recap in the history of race recaps. You’re welcome ๐Ÿ™‚

This race ended my go-go-go streak, and I’m officially taking a much needed break from racing. I think the only things on my race calendar in the immediate future is another 10k the first weekend of May, then a 5k on July 4th. Other than that, most weekends are already pinned down to friends’ wedding festivities and REST!

What is your favorite song to finish races to? Do you enjoy 10ks? What’s on your upcoming race agenda?

Sunday I have Tough Mudder and I’m excited. Went for my last run today. Did 8km tempo felt good.
In 2 weeks time I have a 10km trail run, and I’m super excited about that too, because it’s a race I’ve never done before.
You are right music has the power to really motivate you. My end song always changes., but at the moment I’m really enjoying Natasha Bedingfield “weightless”.

Ps, love the photos’ of you dog.

Happy birthday (late…sorry)! Congrats on a solid race. Multiple-loop courses are not my favorite, either, but at least they give you a mental boost. I’m running a 10k on Saturday!

That’s a great time! I do enjoy a 10K and usually the only race distance that I really push myself to PR at because those times are usually what gets submitted for corral placement for bigger races!

Congrats on your race! I think 10Ks are probably my favorite distance to run. They are just long enough to be a challenge without wiping you out for the whole day.

The last few races my last songs on my playlist were: I’m Coming Home, And The Winner Is, and Counting Stars. Feel good ones!

I love 10ks! I run way too fast in the beginning of 5ks, but with a 10k I find I pace myself much better. And its still a kick-butt workout.

    Feel better friend!

Oooh good songs ๐Ÿ™‚ I agree, it’s a good distance to teach yourself to pace yourself, and I do the same thing in 5K’s, I ALWAYS start out too fast! Hmmph!

    Well done on your race!
I had a nightmare with my last race, the song I was to finish on was so slow so I had to try and change it in order to get a good sprint on. It was such a faff and it stressed me out!! I should have just left it and got on with running normally haha.

I have a 10K coming up in April! My first official 10K! I’m pretty stoked. I am hoping to PR. I want to finish in 60 minutes or less.
I also dislike out and back loops. They are not my favorite.

You know I’ve never run a 10k. . . it’s a distance I totally would be up to run but I feel like it wouldn’t be easy!

It’s a weird distance to me!! I feel like once I really get warmed up and in a groove, the race is over!
