Our Little Christmas Evening

Happy Christmas Eve!!

Last night Adam and I finally celebrated OUR Christmas. We got a fire going, put on Home Alone, promptly followed by The Polar Express, cooked up our favorite – grilled cheese and tomato soup, and opened our presents to one another! I think I’ve learned over the past few years that it really doesn’t matter WHEN we celebrate our Christmas, but it just matters that we make it special, spend time together, and enjoy these precious memories. Who knows what next Christmas will look like, or where we’ll be, so for this year, we enjoyed a quiet evening at home after work, with no distractions. I only took a handful of pictures, and they were all with the flash on, amidst a messy house full of wrapping paper and boxes, so, just ignore that!

Santa, of course, had to do some sneaking around to ensure that neither of us “saw” anything beforehand. Truckee even spent some time outside to ensure she didn’t catch of a glimpse of Santa Paws. (Humor me, ok?)

christmas cards and cute stockings

We opened our stockings first, and of course, Santa out-did himself – I got a new toothbrush!!!!! In addition to a cute new clutch, phone case, and a few other little knick-knacks. Adam received some decoy cord, a collapsible fishing net, and a few more “bug-out-bag” supplies to add to his collection. Miss Truckee received some new tennis balls, a flying squirrel frisbee, a rope toy, AND, wait for it, anti-itch spray! Woohoo! Poor girl and her skin allergies, I’m hoping this spray will work wonders!

For our gifts, I opted to get Adam several smaller things, while Adam opted to get me one BIG thing.

A few of the smaller things I got Adam were a pair of nice headphones, a coffee mug and V60 coffee dripper, a new cast iron skillet, and decoy weights. Adam’s “fun” gift I guess out of everything was a dozen new duck decoys. Thankfully I have a magical elf friend to help me navigate the duck hunting supply waters, and I think Adam was super excited! Truckee tried to act interested for about 2 seconds, but let’s be real, just like penguins will never fly, Truckee will never be a duck dog.

My big gift was….

An iPad Air!!!! I was COMPLETELY shocked and surprised, and so, so excited! An iPad is something I’ve always said I’d never buy for myself because it’s not something I “need”, and I feel like since I have an iPhone and a macbook pro that an iPad would just be a fun addition. But, I’ve told Adam a few times in the past that I’d love to have one for convenience reasons, face-timing with family, blog and photo stuff, and for future kiddos. I’m super excited to play with it, and am now officially one of those Apple-Rules-My-Life people. But that’s okay. And as a disclaimer, we may or may not have a connection with someone at an Apple store, just so you don’t think we spent our life’s savings on this year’s Christmas 😉

All in all, it was a relaxing Christmas evening, and I ended the night crying watching Polar Express. Go figure. Gets me every time! That dang jingle bell.

Merry Christmas to all my readers!! I hope it’s wonderful and special and all your Christmas dreams come true!!

How do you and your spouse celebrate Christmas? Are you like us and squeeze it in when you can?

You should use your ipad for IPS (in person sales) for your photog biz. Seriously will change your life!

    Enjoy, I love my ipad.

I think so too! It’s been fun making our traditions, and just figuring out our holiday groove! It can be hard to figure everything out once there’s two families to see!

Awww such a good idea to make your own little christmas before the craziness of family christmas! This year mike and I just exchanged presents but really didn’t do anything else, haha. I think next year I want to make it into more of a “christmas”, even if it’s a few days early 🙂 I’d love to start our own traditions like watching a certain movie or making snacks or something! Also: AN IPAD AIR! That’s awesome!!! Adam did good 🙂
