Can you believe Monday is December 1st? I seriously cannot believe how fast this month has flown by, and the holidays have truly snuck up on me! I feel like I blinked and it was time to start thinking about putting up the Christmas decorations. We’ve been traveling on the weekends so much lately that I knew I’d need to get a little head start on my decor in order to get us in the holiday spirit! So, earlier this week I turned off the TV, closed my laptop, and dug out the ‘ole box of Christmas goodies! I decided to get the ball rolling with my mantle decor, and favorite holiday scents. And even though my tree isn’t up yet, it definitely smells like it is!
I’m not going to be able to put my tree up until we get home from Thanksgiving in TX, so already having my other decor up will save me a little time. We use a pre-lit hand-me-down artificial tree because we both are allergic to the real deal. But, I tend to prefer artificial ones anyways because there’s less mess, and you can buy one and use it for years! Or in our case, not buy one at all!
Here’s a look at a few of my decorations thus far. Pretty much the same thing as last year, just rearranged. We keep it pretty simple around these parts.
Isn’t Truckee’s stocking so cute? She is already asking what Santa Paws is bringing her.
I’m also loving reindeer this year. My mom has always collected Santas, but I think collecting reindeer would be something different and fun!
This red berry garland I bought at Target two years ago, along with this plaid Merry Christmas banner. I was recently in Target and did see the banner again, so they definitely still make it.
To make my house actually smell like that berry garland, I put this Cranberry Ice candle in my lantern atop the mantle. I love having candles on the mantle to add a little glow, and this cranberry scent smells amazing! It’s crisp, #smellsclean, and is fruity enough without being overpowering. If you’d like one of your own, you can find it on the air care aisle of Wal-Mart, along with several other delicious smelling holiday candles.
I’m also on a red kick lately. I used to not be a big fan of the color red, but lately, I can’t get enough of the cheerful color! In fact, I may have splurged on a candy apple red down vest with a fur hood at Gap on Black Friday, and I can’t WAIT to wear it!!
For our tree theme, I am loving the more rustic, woodsy ornaments, and actually found these gold sparkly acorns and little antler ornaments at Cracker Barrel the other day! They were on sale for buy 3 get one free, so I stocked up!
If I’m not burning the cranberry candle, then it’s all about the spruce. About the spruce. About the spruce. See what I did there? I found these glade wax melts in a Sparkling Spruce scent as well and knew they’d make my house smell as if we had a real Christmas tree. Fake it ’till you make it, right? I sent my husband on a mission back down the air care aisle of Wal-Mart to pick up a wax melter and he easily found exactly what I described. Sending men on a shopping trip to pick up a very specific item can sometimes be hit or miss, but he said he had no trouble at all finding my melter AND coordinating air wick plugin refills.
We love these air wick plugins because they last for so long, and you can determine how strong the scent gets released. We’ve gotten a few compliments from friends coming over who have said our house smells fantastic, which is perfect because it’s almost time for those holiday parties! There’s nothing better than going to a special gathering and being greeted by a clean smelling, Christmasy fragrance. Truckee was even enamored by the scent. Her nose always knows a good smell!
These air wick plugins come in several holiday scents, and they’re pretty obvious at Wal-Mart – I’ve seen them both in the air care section and on a few end-caps.
I’m anxious to get home and spend a romantic evening decorating our tree, and sipping on some homemade hot chocolate! I’ll be sure to share a tree update once the mission has been accomplished!
What are your Christmas decorations looking like this year? Do you stick to a type of “theme” for your decor or ornaments? What is your favorite holiday scent? How do you make sure your house #smellsclean for the holidays?
