Be Inspiring

Guys, this post is going to be a little different from the norm. I usually post a Blogger Feature on Thursdays, but my week has been all out of whack so I woke up and thought today was Wednesday, thus no blogger feature is prepared! But don’t worry, the fabulous Brooke from Sweet & Sweaty will be on the blog tomorrow! Large and in charge! Head on over to her site and get familiar!

Tuesday I stayed home from work when I woke up with a bad headache, for the third day in a row. I slept in until 11:30, something I don’t think I’ve done since high school! It felt, a-mazing. Truckee probably thought she was in heaven, getting to stay in bed with me most of the day! By the afternoon, I was feeling much better, and was able to get some work done from home. Truckee was super clingy all day, and practically tried to sit in my lap while I worked on the couch. She thinks she’s helping 🙂

By the time Adam got home, I was dying to go to the gym and stretch my legs. I did 4 miles on the treadmill, sans music (not fun!), then a leg workout including leg curls, squats, lunges, and a few crunches to even things out. It was weird to run on the treadmill without music, mostly because I felt like I could hear a million different conversations. I guess that kept it interesting!

I’m starting to think more and more about my half marathon goal for March 2! I know I want to PR again, beating 1:58:13. I’d really LOVE to hit 1:55:00. Based on a pace calculator, my average pace would need to be 8:46/mile. That still sounds so daunting to me, but I think I could do it! Even a 8:50 average mile would put me around a 1:55:48 half time. Getting my half time under 2 hours was tough, but I’m hoping with more strength training it will be easier this go-around. I don’t consider myself to be a naturally FAST distance runner, so each mile I run in the 8’s I’m super proud of! I can’t even fathom the strength and endurance that elite marathon runners have…running 5-6 minute miles repeatedly without stopping just blows my mind! Heck, even running 7 minute miles!

I guess that brings me to today’s topic!

Be Inspiring

I was watching Biggest Loser this week and couldn’t help but be motivated! The makeover episode gets me every time. It’s just so amazing to me to see how far the contestants come, not just physically, but a complete mental and emotional turn around. They become strong, confident, and proud of themselves! And most importantly, they learn to love themselves and  learn to embrace living a new, healthy lifestyle. I think one of my favorite parts about being a healthy living blogger, is when friends and family text me and say, “I just ran X many miles in X many minutes!” or “I’m down X lbs this week and I’ve walked X miles this week!” or “I signed up for my first 5K!” or “Look how fast I just ran!” That’s what it’s all about! It’s not about being the fastest, or showing off my splits and workouts to brag to all of my social media followers, or to guilt trip people into working out. It’s to inspire people to get out there and MOVE, and be active, and to show that exercise doesn’t have to be this daunting task but that it can be rewarding and fun! And if you MAKE time for it, you will be so glad you did. I hope that by being open about my own progress and struggles, and how I workout, that it inspires or motivates someone to exercise as well! Being active isn’t just about looking good, or losing weight, but it’s about feeling good about yourself and being proud of yourself. Exercise is a natural stress reliever, and endorphin producer, and once you catch the “happy” bug, it’s addicting! Not to mention the 98235827489 health benefits of exercise. Yes, there’s that many. It’s hard not to be intimidated by someone faster, or someone stronger, or someone more experienced, but everyone starts somewhere! What matters most is that you try. And not everyone will love running like I do, but my dream is that everyone will eventually find their own form of exercise that brings as much joy to them as running brings to me!

I found some of my favorite motivational quotes that keep me moving, and wanted to share them! I shared some fun ones previously on a half marathon motivation post, but these are a little different. And with the Olympics coming up, (who’s PUMPED?!!) who isn’t motivated to get out there and pretend to be as cool as an olympian?! Just me? Ok…

And if those don’t put a pep in your step, maybe this will…

That smile. I know.

What motivates you? Why do you exercise? How does running make you feel stronger?

That Dean knows a thing or two 😉 Thanks for all the awesome running quotes all in one place. Those are definitely things I remember when miles get tough. I stay motivated by remembering that running/walking/using my legs is a gift. Not everyone can, so I should be grateful and take advantage of them as much as possible. Although I’d rather lift weights than run, I know it ALL will be helpful in the long run. Living healthy, means living happy (in my book)!

I am confident that you will meet your goal and PR again! Isn’t it just a wonderful feeling? I wish that I would PR for every race, but I’d have to be like superwoman! lol. The feeling after a race is what keeps me running. Also, I love how running and exercising changes my body. Just recently, I started taking barre classes and I am in love with them. I’ve gotten so much stronger and leaner in the past few weeks. Keeps me truckin’ along!

Oh, my week has been off too, it feels like Tuesday to me, so at least you are a day closer to correct! I have had many people ask me why I like to run so much and, you know, I can never come up with a really good reason. I just like to run because it makes me feel awesome lol

Oh, girl. What a great post. Especially since I am at a point where I need to put my head down and start doing the really work – improving on the status quo.

I am most motivated by wanting to beat myself 🙂 Running, by its very nature, just makes me stronger. Being able to go out for a casual 7-8 miler, no big deal, is so empowering.

I actually find that I get SO much out of running and the feeling that it gives me that I don’t struggle too much to be self-motivated. BUT I will say healthy living blogs, like your own ;), have inspired me to push myself in ways that I would have never imagined before. . . which is pretty amazing.

I LOVE Bart Yasso’s quote! He is so awesome! I’ve been thinking a lot about being inspiring to myself! Drawing from what I know I can do – and using that to push ahead. Like you ending your workouts strong a lot lately in the low 8s and mid 7s – think about that during your upcoming half marathon – you can do it!

Great quotes! I do love a good running/motivational quote. And it’s so true about being a runner – you can be someone who runs once a week but you are STILL a runner. No one can take that from you.
How you managed on a treadmill without music…amazing 😉
