Just popping in to say hi real quick and to update you on my NEW NEPHEW!
Henry Grayson was born yesterday morning around 9:30 am, weighing in at 7 lbs 14 oz! Mom, baby, AND daddy are doing great! I’m so proud of my big brother and his AWESOME wife. They are going to be amazing parents, and I already feel blessed by that little face.
He is the most beautiful little boy I have ever seen, and I absolutely CANNOT wait to hold him and love on him.
If you follow me on Twitter, then you’re already aware of the fact that I was unable to make it to Nashville, TN yesterday. I got onto I-40 East about 9 am, expecting the trip to be routine. LONG story short, it took me almost 11 hours to go 43 miles on the highway from Biscoe, AR to Forrest City, AR, before I finally had a meltdown and couldn’t take it anymore, so I exited and turned back to Little Rock. An hour later I was back home, defeated and broken hearted that I wasn’t able to be there for the birth of my sweet nephew. Missing those precious moments with my family ripped my heart to pieces, and it took all I could to not break down right there in my car. Needless to say, sitting helpless on an icy highway in gridlocked traffic, BY MYSELF, was traumatizing and a nightmare come true. I tried as hard as I possibly could to fight the traffic and get through to TN, but it’s just too bad, it’s near impassable at this point. Drivers are still stranded this morning.
I am literally STUCK in Arkansas until this massive traffic jam is cleared. The highways in east AR and West Memphis are disastrous, so bad that the National Guard was called in. I had multiple National Guardsmen check on me throughout the ordeal, as well as several highway patrol officers checking on myself and fellow stranded drivers. It just seems UNREAL to me that Arkansas let their MAIN highways get this bad, when as soon as you cross the border into MO or TN, the roads are cleared.

Below are just a few tweets I pulled from last night:
On the BRIGHT side, I have a HEALTHY new nephew, and I know I will get to see him soon
I also signed up for another race! I’m thinking this one will be mostly for fun, and to keep myself in shape. The Downtown Dash 10K in Little Rock is next Saturday, March 15. My 25th birthday is the next day, so I treated myself to a pre-birthday race!
I’m still pretty stiff and sore from the half on Sunday, and after sitting in my car literally all day yesterday, my thighs want to KILL ME today. Foam rolling will definitely take place tonight! If not a short shake-out run to un-stress from yesterday’s events.
I’ll keep you posted on if I make it to TN anytime in the near future! You better believe I will tell you ALL ABOUT that little munchkin once I get my hands on him!
Have a great day everyone! Stay safe, warm, and fingers crossed for #I40 Traffic Saga to die down! And while you’re at it, say a little prayer for all those drivers STILL stranded, I know they’re at their wits end! I feel like I bonded with a lot of fellow Tweeters over the course of yesterday, and got to know a sweet family in front of me. I hope and pray that everyone I met made it safe and sound, or was at least able to pull over and get a hotel for the night!
I learned that sometimes, we truly just aren’t in control. We can’t do everything. We can’t always win. My patience was tested to the extreme, and I will forever remember this nightmare and cringe at any sight of traffic.
Have you ever sat in an EPIC traffic jam? Do you have any nieces or nephews? Do you enjoy racing for fun or time?
