Life in Texas: Happiness At The New Home

Wow, it has been a busy weekend, and I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around it all! We’re finally in our new house, along with all of our belongings, and most importantly this lazy thing…

I can’t believe we were without our Truckee puppy girl for 12 days. 12 days is a long time ya’ll! I know she had a blast staying at the pet lodge, and playing with all the other dogs, but my goodness we are happy to have her back and feel complete again! She hasn’t left our side since getting home, and I’m pretty sure she’s in love with her new backyard. I know her paws are oh so happy to no longer be on rocks! Also, I’m pretty sure Adam could cry he’s so happy she’s home. Those two – so much love.

So since last time we talked, we had painters come in and paint the entire downstairs, as well as Adeline’s room upstairs. It took way longer than we thought, but I’m glad we hired it out because it looks fantastic. They were the sweetest guys, and it was definitely hard work! We also had our TX movers unload all of our stuff on Friday! They too were the sweetest guys, and I can’t say enough good things about Marvel Movers out of Keller. Seriously, USE THEM. They made our AR movers look like straight up poop, but that’s again, another story for another day.

Over the weekend, we slowly unpacked a few boxes, and got our bed and Adeline’s bed set up. Her room is about 75% put back together, sans wall decor. The rest of the house is in complete disarray, but my in-laws and SIL came over this afternoon to help us unload a ton of kitchen boxes, so that’s been a huge help! As accurately as I thought I labeled all our boxes, there’s still so much stuff that seems to be not at all where I thought I packed it. We’ll get there though! Can I hire un-packers too??

Tonight was officially our first night as a family in the new house. Talk about a relief. I feel like the weight of the world is off my shoulders, minus a few small bumps still to cross. But for the most part, I feel so much more relaxed, at peace, and happy. So, so happy. Everything is going to be a-ok! I’m planning on doing a giant write up on things we learned moving out of state, so stay tuned for that juicy post.

I’ve had a few sad moments, thinking about people we miss back in AR, but I am 100% positive we made the right decision, and I’m so thankful this is where we landed. AR was exactly what we needed during that season of life, and I’m confident this is what we need for this next season. I also just really freaking love our house, you guys. I’m not kidding when I say I’m never moving again. Our neighborhood is absolutely wonderful, and as cheesy as it sounds, it’s exactly what I was dreaming about. Tonight, we literally walked out our front door, all of us barefoot, walked down the sidewalk (6 houses down!) and watched her play on the playground for a few minutes before bath time. Then we walked back. And as we were walking, it felt like a dream. There were other young families out in their yards, walking up and down the sidewalks, and we waved and said hi as we passed. The sun was setting at one end of the street, and thunder was rumbling in the distance at the other end. When we got back, we went into our backyard and Adeline and Truckee ran laps through the grass. I’m not sure who was smiling more, but it was perfect. Moments like these feel like reassurance from God that we made the right decision for Adeline. I can’t wait to watch her grow up here.

Everyone we’ve met so far is insanely nice. And beautiful. And welcoming. No wonder people like TX so much! I think I’m going to be a fan. I’ve also had several sweet girls reach out through Instagram and welcome me to DFW – hooray for social media mom friends! As soon as I feel more settled and in a routine, I’m excited to start meeting some new faces, and hopefully get more involved with some young moms in the area, and maybe even some fellow mom bloggers. I am also dyyyyyying to get back to the gym. I kind of feel like Jabba the Hutt right now, but I’m giving myself grace on that front.

Adeline seems to be adjusting well so far, but we’ve technically been here for 12 days now. Her first week Β at her new school went swimmingly. Seriously, it could not have gone better. She LOVES her new school, and her teachers adore her. They have a cool app where they send us real time updates throughout the day, and we can message back and forth if we need to. I’m expecting these next few days actually in our home to be a little rough though. She slept great at my in-laws, but she’s also been there a TON so it was super familiar to her. She did take her first nap at the new house yesterday though, and after crying for 15-20 minutes she passed out hard. Last night was also a little rough, but I’m not surprised. Lots of big changes for a little girly! I think she will get it figured out soon, but until then, it might take a little extra patience, and a little less sleep.

I was planning on sharing a Loving Lately post today, but felt like I needed to sit down and just jot down some thoughts instead. We’ve made some fun new purchases lately, likes rugs and bedding, and I’ve got to tell you all about my first IKEA trip! I think I’m officially initiated into the IKEA club and I’m obsessed. Shopping online ain’t got nothin’ on the Disney World experience that is IKEA. Point being, I’ll share it later this week! Maybe. Everything in life right now is kind of a big ‘maybe’ until we’re actually settled. Ha!

I’m feeling slightly overwhelmed by my to-do list, but we keep saying, “we’ve got all the time in the world!” to get it done. We are in no rush at all, and I couldn’t be more content.

Thanks to everyone who’s reached out on Instagram! I’ll check back in soon!

It sounds so perfect and beautiful! So glad you guys have happiness and peace! I have some family in the Corinth area.
I’ve moved 4 times in 8 years and I like to just simply unpack one room at a time. I do each room very neat and just how I want it. Seem to help the overall clutter.

Thank you Bethany! Wow! That is so much! Sounds like unpacking one room at a time is a great efficient way to go about it! PS every time I try to comment on your blog it gives me an error πŸ™ but I promise I’ve tried!

That house is gorgeous and your new neighborhood sounds amazing! I was all go-go-go with projects for the first couple weeks when we moved, then I kind of hit a wall haha. I’ll get to that third bedroom eventually!

Thank you! That’s how we are too, our guests rooms are pretty much just for storing boxes and junk right now!

You seriously sound so happy! That’s great that you’re finally moved in and your neighborhood sounds great! IKEA is the best and sometimes my husband and I just make a trip through for decoration inspiration. It’s definitely an experience lol

YAY!! Your home is absolutely beautiful! We are toying with the idea of moving from our home of three years for investment reasons and doing a fixer-upper. My husband is a realtor and he loves the thought of staying in a house only two years and then moving on. I’m only 25, but I can’t imagine doing it too often. So glad you are settling in πŸ™‚

Thank you so much Madeline! That sounds like it would keep life interesting for sure!! Eventually you might want to settle down, but who knows! That would be so much fun doing fixer-uppers together!

Gah I am so so jealous. Because one, you don’t move that often and have a possible forever/long term home. And two, how do you upack that fast?! Despite moving often, we still take FOREVER and a day to unpack. I seriously dread every move because of this! I don’t even think we have that much stuff I just really hate unpacking. So no tips there!

I transitioned Claire to a new room when she was 21 months old I think. We just made it seem like a big surprise that she had a new room and she took to it no problem! I would just say make it as close to the same as her old room, like same lighting, sound machine, general positioning of furniture if you can? I’m sure she’ll adjust soon!

    So happy for you guys!

Haha it’s definitely a REALLY big relief to know that we currently don’t have ANY plans to move for a very long time! I finally feel at peace with where we’re at.

Was it really 21 months? Wow! I’ve always watched Claire bc she’s just ahead of Adeline, but now that Adeline is almost 21 months (this week!) I just can’t imagine her not being in her crib! Maybe later this fall..I don’t know..it makes me nervous with her room because so close to the stairs too. She loves opening doors, and I’m scared she will figure out how to climb over the gate!

Stick to a routine and she’ll be back to normal in no time! Toddlers are way more adaptable then we give them credit for!

I am nuts and we unpacked the day we moved into our house. Literally. I AM CRAZY.
