This post is sponsored by buybuy BABY on behalf of Graco. I received the following car seat for free in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Now that Barrett has surpassed 20 pounds, he’s just too heavy to constantly carry around in his infant car seat. He was basically breaking my arm every time I had to haul him around, so we knew it was time to make a change. And recently, we did exactly that and upgraded him to his first big boy convertible car seat! (How is he already big enough for this??) We knew we’d probably want to stick to the same or similar car seat as Adeline, since we’ve had nothing but great experiences with her’s so far. So when I received the chance to review this one in particular for Barrett, I jumped at it. I’ve actually had it sitting in our garage for over a year now, waiting until we actually needed it. And I can’t believe that time has now come! I was so thankful we already had it on hand, and couldn’t wait to dig into it! (He was excited too!)
The Graco® 4Ever® Extend2Fit® Platinum 4-in-1 Convertible Car Seat in Shale, is officially Barrett’s new ride. We’ve actually been big fans of Graco products since Adeline was born back in 2015 and we used a Graco infant car seat and travel system. Then when we upgraded her for the first time, we opted for the Graco 4Ever 4-in-1 Convertible Car Seat, in hot pink, because, have you met our daughter? Then when we needed an extra car seat in Adam’s truck, we bought a second one, a slightly different model in black. And now that we have this newer, premium model for Barrett, it’s technically our THIRD Graco 4Ever 4-in-1 car seat! And you know what? We’ll probably need to buy a fourth one soon so that we can have two in both cars. I’m not sure if a face palm emoji and/or flying dollar bills would be more appropriate for my feelings on that. HA!
So, needless to say, it was only a matter of time before another Graco 4Ever 4-in-1 car seat entered our lives! And honestly, I’ll forever be loyal to these car seats because they’re just.that.good. Back when we bought our first one, we researched and researched and asked countless friends for their recommendations. We read reviews online, looked in-store at buybuy BABY, the whole nine yards. We finally prioritized what was most important to us in a convertible car seat, and landed on the Graco 4Ever 4-in-1 quite easily. Budget friendly, good reviews, comfort level, cup holders, lifetime usage, features and durability, and of course safety were all things we considered, and the line of Graco 4Ever 4-in-1 car seats checked every box.
The model I am featuring today, the Extend2Fit® Platinum in shale, is exactly what it sounds like – a more premium, updated version of the standard 4ever 4-in-1 car seats. It comes with a few more bells and whistles than the regular models, and is 100% worth the extra money in my opinion.
One of the biggest upgraded features is the extension panel, which provides 5″ of extra leg room, essentially allowing your favorite little human to rear-face even longer. We all know one of the first reasons we selfishly want to switch our kids to forward facing sooner than later is because of their cramped little legs. But, this Extend2Fit Platinum model helps solve that! With all of the newest research that’s come out in regards to how imperative it is to keep kids rear-facing AS LONG AS POSSIBLE, I’m all for anything that will help make it easier on everyone. This is a really cool feature, and I’m looking forward to seeing how much of a difference it makes as Barrett grows. If I had a do-over, I would have kept Adeline rear facing a few more months longer than we did. But, hindsight is 20/20. Technically, weight-wise she could still be rear-facing if we really wanted her to be!
The seat itself also just feels more “plush”, if I had to compare it to previous models. At least compared to the two we already own, I feel like this one is definitely more padded. I also like that the cover is machine washable, and super easy to remove. If Barrett is as messy as Adeline is in her car seat, I have a feeling this feature will come in handy. If you can tell in the pictures above and below, the grey cushion where his bottom actually sits is really soft and cushioned, so overall I feel like this seat is quite a bit more comfortable in general.
Just like with the regular models, this seat is touted to be good “for 10 years” of usage. It’s literally designed to take you from infancy to big kid years – infant seat to backless booster – without having to change car seats. That was one of the reasons we went with the 4Ever car seat originally was because we loved the idea of not having to constantly invest in a new car seat. The seat comes with the extra padding and support needed to keep an infant as little as 4 lbs safe and secure, all the way up to a 120 lb kid. And the seat is designed to rear-face up to 50 lbs. And with those 5 extra inches mentioned before, you can rear-face even longer.
Safety wise, of course this seat meets all of the criteria needed to make a mama’s heart feel good. From the website, and said better than I can –
- Engineered and crash tested to meet or exceed US Safety Standards FMVSS 213.
- EPS, energy absorbing foam for effective impact energy management.
- Side impact tested for occupant retention solely with the built-in 5-point harness system and belt positioning modes.
- Steel reinforced frame provides strength and durability.
One of the safety features I always look for is a steel reinforced frame, as well as the extra attention to side-impact protection, so I was happy to see that this model was in fact made this way.
Barrett so far has been LOVING it. He seems so much more comfortable in it when he rides in Adam’s truck, and I feel better about it too. He was so squished in his infant seat, and just looks safer in his new convertible seat! I love that it has 6 recline positions, so we can really tailor how he sits up in the truck. Right now, I think he’s in position 2. (In the truck, not in these pictures of course. Not sure what it’s on in these pictures!)
There is also the added headrest cushion, which we thought we might actually leave in for some extra cushioning, but ultimately decided on removing because he doesn’t really need it at his size. The straps glide in an our super smoothly, the strap pads are nice, and again, it just feels really nicely made and expertly constructed. Oh, and another nice feature with the 4Ever line is that as they grow, and you need to adjust their straps/harness, you simply pull up on the headrest and it adjusts everything at once, eliminating the need to go in and thread the straps back through or disconnect them!
The Graco® 4Ever® Extend2Fit® Platinum 4-in-1 Convertible Car Seat in Shale is available exclusively at buybuy BABY and retails for $359.99. It’s very easy to install, and uses a EZ Tight LATCH system to ensure it’s secured safety in your car. The car seat itself weighs in at 28.5 lbs and is 21.5″ wide, if size is of concern.
I hope this review was helpful to you! Like I said, we are now officially on our THIRD Graco 4Ever convertible car seat, so if you have any questions, send them my way! We are big, big fans, and would highly recommend them! And out of the 3 we own, this Extend2Fit Platinum version is my favorite so far.
