Adeline’s Christmas Wish List + Gift Ideas For Toddlers Ages 12-18 Months

Before I had a child of my own, I always felt like I was clueless at what to get kids for holidays, birthdays, special occasions, etc. Once you become a parent though, you suddenly learn the world of toys, and you become even more overwhelmed than you even thought possible. Just me? Oh surely not! To help other wandering souls out there looking for the perfect gift for that toddler in their life, I’ve put together a gift guide of some fool-proof ideas. A few of these items are things Adeline has on her own Christmas list, or wish list for the future. {Disclaimer: Adeline’s Christmas list is NOT this extensive!}

Adeline will be 14 months at Christmas this year – SUCH a fun age!! She’s finally old enough to “play” with her toys, but she’s not quite old enough to really appreciate some of the bigger more conceptual toys. I have a feeling this Christmas is going to be so incredibly sweet! I can’t wait to see that little Christmas morning sparkle in her eye!

I’ve linked each toy below. Happy shopping!

gift ideas for one year olds and toddlers

  1. Mega Bloks Big Building Bag – Oversized legos! Easy for little hands to hold, and big enough not to choke on! Win win! Adeline LOVES little objects she can easily hold and carry herself, and I know she’d get a kick out of a huge pile of blocks. My feet? Not so much.
  2. Play Tunnel – If I were a toddler, I would want a giant tunnel to crawl through. If you’re a grandparent and you’re reading this thinking, “I’m going to get that for blankity blankity kid”, be sure to ask if they have space for it first. I would love this for Adeline, but until we have a designated playroom, her tunnel dreams are officially on hold.
  3. Ride-On toy – You can’t go wrong with a ride-on toy! I ordered Adeline a purple hippo ride-on thing and I’m so excited about it! I also love the one I linked – it’s a bit more gender neutral!
  4. Fisher-Price Bright Beats Dance & Move Beat Bo – This is apparently one of those “hot” toys right now. There are several different variations, like a pink one, and a puppy one. It dances and sings, and does all of those fun sensory things that little ones need. You can even record a phrase and it will remix it into a song!
  5. Play Kitchen – There are a million different toy kitchens you can find online – plastic, wood, you name it! You could even make one yourself! I’m waiting until Adeline is closer to the 18 month mark to start thinking about a kitchen because I want her to better be able to understand, appreciate, and enjoy it. So, save this one for your older toddler, one who’s more on the 18 month end as opposed to 12 month end. (We may even wait until her 2nd birthday, so this one might be a stretch but all kids are different!)
  6. Start a Collection – Little People, Cabbage Patch, Cars or trains, Dolls, Legos, etc. You can’t go wrong with one of the many things little kids can collect. I think Little People are adorable and Adeline loves carrying around the farm animals she stole from my mom’s house, ha! You could help them start their collection, or add to an existing favorite.
  7. Books – 12-18 months is when toddlers really start to LOVE books! Or at least Adeline does! She’s just now at the point where she’ll carry a book to me, sit in my lap, and “ask” me to read it to her. It melts my heart every time!! I’ve linked a favorite of ours, Little Blue Truck’s Christmas, but she loves the normal version too. And any other book you put in front of her!
  8. Little Tikes Tough Workshop – A toy workshop for a little boy! (Or a little girl…girls can build stuff too!) If we had a boy, this would for sure be on his wish list so he could work on his projects right alongside daddy.
  9. Play Teepee – If there were one “big” thing on Adeline’s wish list it would be a play teepee! I can’t WAIT to get her a fun little teepee to play in, and read books in! LOVING this mini gold polka dot one! I’ve also seen lots of cute tents out there, so that’s another option. But again, I think I need to wait until closer to 18 months for this one.
  10. Stuffed Animal – Adeline is obsessed with her stuffed animals, so I’d say a new stuffed animal is always a safe bet for toddlers! We love Jellycat stuffed animals the most around here! I’ve linked a sweet little brown teddy bear that’s sure to please.
  11. Melissa & Doug Wood Puzzles – Puzzles are ALWAYS a good idea for toddlers! Such a fun way to not only learn, but just stay busy and enjoy playing with something basic and NOT electronic! Adeline loves her puzzles, and I can’t wait to add more to her collection! If the toddler you know already has lots of puzzles, you could also get them a rack to keep them organized!
  12. A New Backpack: TNF Sprout – I love The North Face Sprout backpacks, and am definitely keeping it on my radar. Right now I use a monogrammed backpack for Adeline, and it’s amazing how much easier using a backpack is than a diaper bag! The TNF bag would be high quality, durable, water resistant, and fun to use for travel, or outside adventures!
  13. A New Fuzzy Blanket – Love these new Pottery Barn star sherpa blankets, and think one would be so cute monogrammed! Also really loving these lighter printed stroller blankets, too cute! Esp. the pink and black ones! Gifting a special blanket that’s a little more “big girl” or “big boy” would be a sweet thought.
  14. Bentgo Kids Leakproof Lunch Box – Bento boxes are a great way to keep all those snacks together, or pack a great lunch. I’ve had something like this on Adeline’s wish list since we were pregnant! Love that they are leakproof – so great for toting to daycare, in the car, etc.
  15. Fun New Plates/Bowls/Utensils/Etc – Feeding toddlers is always more fun with fun plates!
  16. Seasonally Appropriate Shoes – Shoes can be tough gifts, but if you’re sure on shoe size, it can also be a big blessing to a family who maybe can’t afford the newest, trendiest shoes or who normally just wouldn’t buy them. I’ve linked these ADORABLE baby Uggs with bows on the back because…Uggs and bows! Love love!
  17. Learning Toys – Going with any toy that’s in the learning/developmental category is also a safe bet. I love this VTech little puppy kennel toy from Target!
  18. Pottery Barn Anywhere Chair – Adeline LOVES her Anywhere Chair and plays in it every single day. There are three different sizes, and we went with the Regular size.
  19. Nalgene Grip ‘N Gulp Water Bottle – Nalgene, Camelbak, Klean Kanteen, etc. all make great toddler and little kid water bottles. I love that this one has a sippy lid.
  20. Snap & Shop Tray – I found this on Instagram and think it’s just genius! It’s literally exactly what it sounds like…a snap on snack tray for shopping carts! So cool!

{edit} Bonus: Donate to the child’s college savings fund! We have a 529 set up for Adeline, so if you’re gifting to that child “who has everything”, ask if they have maybe a college savings fund you could donate gift money to instead!

Hopefully this gives you some ideas to start with!

Happy Friday!

They have one of those tunnels at R’s daycare and I’ve thought about getting her one. She seems to be having fun when I pick her up and they are in the gym! We bought her a Little Tikes shopping cart for Christmas, and I think she is really going to love it. She can push it around the house and put things in it! We found it at a consignment store for half off so even better!
