Thanks for everyone’s encouraging words regarding my “injury” predicament and search for new shoes!
Your positive vibes paid off, and last night I went for a 5K in my new Brooks Ghost 6’s and new custom orthotics, and I felt GREAT!
Seriously, it was as if my legs had been replaced. Pure joy. Crossing all fingers and toes that this fixes things enough to make it through the marathon, and that when I add more milage the tendon pain is either gone or substantially less! I didn’t feel anything last night, but I only did 3.1. So far, so good though! Woo!
I did the first 2 at 8:57 pace, then the last mile I split into two half miles at 8:34 pace and 8:14 pace. It felt good to run fast again!
Side note- when will race directors finally learn to order GENDER SPECIFIC race day shirts?! Guh. All my shirts look like dresses on me! The sleeves fall way past my hands when I hold my arms down, too. Cough cough, St. Jude Memphis Marathon…please please order mens and womens shirts next year!
If you’re curious what my orthotics look like, and why I rave about them so much, here’s a peeksy.
The foot naturally has THREE arches…bet you didn’t know that! I sure didn’t until a few weeks ago. (You can learn more at the Foot Levelers website). You can kind of tell in this picture if you look closely, but there’s the arch we all know, then under the ball of your foot, and the outside of your foot. Can you see the different levels on the grey orthotics? Those are there to realign my posture and position everything correctly. Remember that crazy picture I showed you the other day about how my balance is way off kilter? Just imagine how good it feels to be EVEN. Ah, it’s like a breathe of fresh air. Now, the hot pink inserts on the bottom right are the ones that come with all shoes. Completely flat, minus the slight “arch”. These are standard in all shoes, and when you take them out of your shoes you’ll be surprised at how flat the inside of your shoe actually is.
If you don’t have access to custom orthotics, Super Feet make high-quality insoles that are way better than the insoles that come with your shoes!
Now for some fun!
For Christmas, my mom bought me a cute new workout/running/lounge outfit from Gap. I had been eyeing some GapFit items for a while and had pinned a few on my Sweet Miles Pinterest board. I finally tried them on last night and loved them so much I thought I’d show you how they fit!
First up, GapFit gBalance pants, True Black, Small Regular
They have a flair bottom opening, and the waistband can fold to however you like it! They’re super comfortable, a tad long on me (I’m 5′ 4″) but I figure if they shrink any in the wash they’ll be fine.
And the best part? They’re ONLY $39.50! Compared to lululemon ~$100 yoga pants, that’s not a bad deal!
Looks like small and medium is sold out online, but I didn’t have any trouble finding them in stores!
Next up, GapFit Breathe Long-Sleeve T
Yep, that’s a butt pic. Come on girls, everyone knows the best part about yoga pants is the butt. Don’t lie.
The top comes in several colors, and the pink color I got looks much more pink in person than on the website. It’s actually called “neon coral volt.” AND it has thumb-holes! My. Favorite.
I am wearing a Small, but I think I could have managed an XS. The shirt itself is a tad long, but I like that it covers more of my butt for when I’m wearing running tights! It’s super soft and light weight, would be a good layer for fall or early spring for sure!
This shirt will run you $29.95. (But if you bought it on Black Friday like mom and I you can snag an even sweeter deal!)
She doesn’t look very thrilled to be wearing this top. But I can assure you it’s fantastic!
Have you tried anything from the GapFit workout line? Do you wear orthotics or nicer insoles in your running shoes?
Oh yea, and this happened yesterday! I was brought on board to be a Blogger Ambassador for the Nashville Hot Chocolate 15/5K on February 15th! More to come.
Don’t forget to ‘like’ Sweet Miles on Facebook if you haven’t yet! I keep forgetting to promote it!
