Happy New Year!
I know they say to never look back, and always look forward, but my goodness 2016 was just too great. I think it’s safe to say it was my favorite year yet. And by favorite, I mean absolute, without a doubt, favorite. This year I’ve grown so much, as both a mother, and a wife. If I had to pick one theme to sum up the year, it would be the year of Adeline. This was my first full year being her mother, and every waking moment of every single day revolved around her well-being. These past 365 days have been nothing short of amazing, magical, precious, sweet, memorable, incredible. The list goes on! I feel so blessed to get to experience motherhood, and though I’m biased, I still wake up thinking Adeline is the cutest freaking thing I’ve ever seen in my entire life.
Here’s a look back at some of our adventures throughout 2016 that I shared on the blog! Warning: photo explosion below.
In January, I fell even more head over heels in love with Adeline (this first picture is my favorite picture I’ve ever taken of her), went back to work full time, experienced Adeline’s first real snow day, and had her dedicated at church.
In February, I really started to work on getting back in shape, had our first Valentine’s Day, Adeline wore her great great grandmother Mitchell’s bonnet, we went to Franklin for the first time and Adeline met her great grandparents and a few of my best friends, took pictures in the sweetest winter woodland creature dress, and I started feeling a little less stressed taking her to church – a HUGE step in the postpartum anxiety battle!
In March, we took Adeline to see the beautiful tulips at Garvan Woodland Gardens, she turned 5 months old (and cuter than ever!), visited the Dallas Arboretum and experienced her first Easter.
In April, we became a blue jean baby, my family came to visit, we wore matching dressed to church, we melted hearts at bath time, one of my long time best friends came to visit, finally outgrew the Rock n Play, and turned 6 months old!
In May, we had our first Mother’s Day, started sitting up on our own every chance we got, rocked our baby New Balance sneakers, started wearing bubbles and decided we love our jumparoo, took embarrassing pictures with stuffed animals, matched mommy in her Puma workout outfit, turned 7 months old, and visited Franklin on our own and got to spend more time with her great grandparents.
In June, we visited Harding for the first time, fell in love with chambray dresses, sat in the shopping buggy for the first time, mommy and daddy celebrated 4 years of marriage, we took fun pictures in our favorite deer dress, daddy had his first Father’s Day, Adeline went to her first church potluck, and swam in the pool for the very first time!
July was full of fun summer festivities! We spent lots of time outside, and made a trip to TX to visit Adam’s family for Honey’s surprise birthday party. Adeline started getting up on her knees, standing if helped and holding onto objects, and turned 9 months old! Oh, and mommy got a new job! (But nobody knew yet!)
In August, we made another trip to Franklin to spend time with family, took some 9.5 month photos at mommy’s favorite park, visited cousin Shalyn’s college dorm room at Harding, and turned 10 months old. (And mommy started her new job!)
In September, we really bonded with Truckee, became obsessed with bath time (this was short lived), exercised a lot with mommy, picnic’d at the park, went to the beach for the first time, watched daddy run The Gauntlet (after mommy had the flu!), stayed home with mommy during the workday for the first time (dream come true!), lost her great grandfather to alzheimers-vascular dementia, and turned 11 months old.
In October, we visited Franklin and celebrated the life of our PawPaw, visited Gentry’s Farm for the first time (first pumpkin patch!), wore our rain coat for the first time, went jogging for real with mommy for the first time, visited BoBrook Farms for the first (of many!) times this month, wore our pumpkin bubble as much as we possibly could, had the most amazing and perfect first birthday party, turned ONE, took our fall family photos, and went to our first Trunk or Treat at church dressed as the cutest little mouse ever.
In November, we started prepping for Christmas, we spent a lot of time as a family, we wore matching denim dresses to church, had a great Thanksgiving together, and mommy started getting into a new gym routine. Oh yea, and Adeline officially learned to walk! She started taking steps about a week after her first birthday (10-22) and by the first week in November there was no stopping her!
In December, we had lots of mommy + Adeline time which meant lots of fun pictures, we met Santa and hated his guts, rocked our hot pink bell bottom pants, made another trip to Franklin to meet new cousin Sutton, ran blissfully through a field in our Miss Claus suit, had Christmas with mommy and daddy, then went back to Franklin for christmas with Grammy and P Daddy. (And OKC for Christmas with the Ingles over New Years!)
Needless to say, this was a pretty kick butt year. It most definitely revolved ALL around Adeline, but I’m totally ok with that! I will forever cherish this year, and consider it one of my favorites of all time. What a year it has been, how blessed we are, and how lucky we are to have each other.
Thank you all for following along, encouraging me, sharing your own stories, and being a part of my 2016!
Happiest of New Years to you and yours.
