Easter 2020: Our Attempt at Bluebonnet Photos and Matching Outfits

Hello again! Can you believe it’s Easter weekend?! Happy Good Friday to everyone celebrating and taking time to rest and reflect. It’s going to be such a strange Easter, but I’m determined to make the most of it. I’ve got most of the kids’ Easter basket goodies ready to go, minus stuffing their eggs and adding a few finishing touches. We’re sticking to simple and pretty minimalistic this year, and yet, it almost feels over-the-top with everything going on. Several weeks ago, Adeline asked me if the Easter Bunny was still going to come visit her, so I did my best to safely make it happen. On Sunday, we’ll be watching our church service online, then doing a drive-by-potluck-pickup with Adam’s family where we’re going to exchange individually packaged dishes to create one large meal. Creative, right?? Gotta make the most of things!

One of the big things on my to-do list recently has been to visit the Bluebonnets and get some spring Easter photos of the kids. Normally, I would have pre-planned their outfits, ordered new shoes for both, a new bow for Adeline, suspenders for Barrett – the whole nine yards. But this year, we’re simply re-wearing a dress from pre-COVID days and Barrett is wearing a sweet little plaid shirt I happened to pick up shortly before stores like Target were no-gos. So, this morning, before the sun got too high, we finally hopped to it and took the kids out to my secret little Bluebonnet patch. (If you remember from last year, this is the spot where I snapped what are still to this day my FAVORITE pictures of all time!) Sadly, the Bluebonnets were mowed and there was only a very small patch remaining. But, let’s be real, Barrett basically didn’t stop moving the entire time, so it really didn’t matter! Ha! I think I captured a handful that perfectly represents the stage we’re in right now, and I’m just so tickled to have a few updated photos. So often I’ve fallen into just using my phone, so it felt good to get back behind the camera. Barrett is so, so much more difficult to photograph than big sis ever was – I’m pretty sure every ‘good’ photo I have of him, he’s on the move! Wild man!

Here are the ones that were worth saving from our little mini photo shoot. I can’t believe how big these little people have gotten – when did they grow up?!

If we don’t speak again, Happy Easter!
