Decking Our NEW Halls

Tis the season for Christmas decorations! I mean, let’s be honest, I’ve had most of our decorations up for at least two weeks now, but now that Thanksgiving has come and gone I wanted to finally share and document. We haven’t quite finished our decorations outside yet, but I’m really excited to see what we finally come up with!

When we bought our new house, one of the things I was most excited for was decorating for holidays, and especially Christmas time! I could already envision our stairwell banister and our mantel, and I knew right away our tree would have to go in the dining room so we could open the curtains and see it from the street. I was so excited for a fresh canvas to decorate and so far I’m loving how cozy it’s made our home. Everything is very simple, and mostly leftover, but adding in some new, fresh garlands and unique accessories here and there helped give old decor new life. Our tree is still missing a topper and a new tree-skirt, but maybe someday I’ll find ones I actually like! I’d love to order a monogrammed tree skirt, I think they’re so cute! (PS I saw someone on Instagram say trees like ours are “jumbled mess trees” but I prefer the term “traditional and average because not everyone’s tree is straight out of a catalog and has time to wrap their tree in 8 different kinds of ribbon and spiky things”) But really, maybe I need to take a tree decorating class. Somebody teach me!

I had planned on ordering new matching stockings this season, but I think I’ve decided to wait until after we have another baby. I really want to order some nice, classy Pottery Barn ones and have them all monogrammed with everyone’s names but I don’t want to risk not being able to find a matching one if I order them right now. So, maybe next year? Or the year after? Who knows!

As far as our Christmas decorating style, I would say we’re pretty traditional with maybe a hint of rustic or eclectic? I really don’t know! I love all the silvers and golds at Christmas time, but I just can’t get over the classic reds and whites and I just can’t not have those quintessential red bows and balls. Timeless. I so wish I was colorful enough to do something wild and fun, but I’m just not. I think we’ll always be welcoming Santa into a sea of red! Adeline’s tree upstairs though is white with different pink ornaments and bright colored balls, which is super fun and totally perfect for her. I’d love to have another “fun” tree in the playroom too but I was recently informed I’ve surpassed my decor budget, ha!

Christmas time with Adeline is just so magical, you guys! I mean, when she was a newborn it was sweet and surreal. When she was one, it was cute. But now that she’s two, it’s FUN!! And oh so precious. Adeline’s eyes light up every time she sees Christmas lights and she screams, “Mommy yights! Moooore yights!” I can’t WAIT to experience all things Christmas with her throughout the month of December, and I want to show her as many Christmas lights as humanly possible because she freaking LOVES them. I also can’t wait to see her reaction to what Santa (“Anta!”) brings her because I know she’s going to be super pumped!

Anyways, here’s a peek into our Christmas-y home, mainly for my own documentation.

Merry Christmas Time!!

Have you decorated yet? What’s your favorite part of your home to decorate? How should we decorate outside?

Your decorations are beautiful! I have a matchy looking tree, but I can’t have any ornaments too close to the bottom because I have two cats. I lose at least 5 ornaments every year haha. I need to take pics of mine soon!

I love all the decorations! Honestly that “jumbled mess tree” blogger is rude! Everyone has their own style and I love seeing all the decorations. Ours is a small three and COVERED in lights. Thanks for sharing!

Haha she didn’t say it to me directly but I saw it on an instagram story and I was like that’s totally how I decorate my tree, whoops! Ha!

I am obsessed with you decorations!! Will you come to my apartment and make it look as nice as your house? Your tree is definitely not a jumbled mess. I love have a mix of “traditional” circle ornaments with fun ones and it seems like you nailed that look.

For outside, you can’t go wrong with icicle lights and a wreath or two!

You are too sweet! Thank you! Ok, I LOVE icicle lights but I just don’t see that many anymore! It makes me sad! I think they’re the prettiest!

Your decorations are beautiful! Our tree is a random assortments of ornaments (which are weirdly grouped because of my 2 and 3 year old helpers), but I love it. I needed to get on putting up the rest of my decorations. All your beautiful ones are definitely a good motivator.

Thank you! Haha having a toddler has definitely changed the way I decorate! We have a clump of ornaments at the bottom of the tree where some little hands helped hang them 🙂

So much fun! Everything looks great! We are decorating this weekend and I’m attempting to make cinnamon dough ornaments with Buel on Saturday. Wish me luck!

Your decorations are BEAUTIFUL, and I love the simple color palette of green and red with the wood details. So lovely! Our apartment is decked out too, but I want more! I even told a friend today that I was thinking of getting another Christmas tree for the bedroom. #NoShameinMyChristmasGame

I love the garland on the mantel and handrail on the stairs. I’m not quite sure what it is, but Christmas decorations always make the house feel so much cozier.
