Tis the season for Christmas decorations! I mean, let’s be honest, I’ve had most of our decorations up for at least two weeks now, but now that Thanksgiving has come and gone I wanted to finally share and document. We haven’t quite finished our decorations outside yet, but I’m really excited to see what we finally come up with!
When we bought our new house, one of the things I was most excited for was decorating for holidays, and especially Christmas time! I could already envision our stairwell banister and our mantel, and I knew right away our tree would have to go in the dining room so we could open the curtains and see it from the street. I was so excited for a fresh canvas to decorate and so far I’m loving how cozy it’s made our home. Everything is very simple, and mostly leftover, but adding in some new, fresh garlands and unique accessories here and there helped give old decor new life. Our tree is still missing a topper and a new tree-skirt, but maybe someday I’ll find ones I actually like! I’d love to order a monogrammed tree skirt, I think they’re so cute! (PS I saw someone on Instagram say trees like ours are “jumbled mess trees” but I prefer the term “traditional and average because not everyone’s tree is straight out of a catalog and has time to wrap their tree in 8 different kinds of ribbon and spiky things”) But really, maybe I need to take a tree decorating class. Somebody teach me!
I had planned on ordering new matching stockings this season, but I think I’ve decided to wait until after we have another baby. I really want to order some nice, classy Pottery Barn ones and have them all monogrammed with everyone’s names but I don’t want to risk not being able to find a matching one if I order them right now. So, maybe next year? Or the year after? Who knows!
As far as our Christmas decorating style, I would say we’re pretty traditional with maybe a hint of rustic or eclectic? I really don’t know! I love all the silvers and golds at Christmas time, but I just can’t get over the classic reds and whites and I just can’t not have those quintessential red bows and balls. Timeless. I so wish I was colorful enough to do something wild and fun, but I’m just not. I think we’ll always be welcoming Santa into a sea of red! Adeline’s tree upstairs though is white with different pink ornaments and bright colored balls, which is super fun and totally perfect for her. I’d love to have another “fun” tree in the playroom too but I was recently informed I’ve surpassed my decor budget, ha!
Christmas time with Adeline is just so magical, you guys! I mean, when she was a newborn it was sweet and surreal. When she was one, it was cute. But now that she’s two, it’s FUN!! And oh so precious. Adeline’s eyes light up every time she sees Christmas lights and she screams, “Mommy yights! Moooore yights!” I can’t WAIT to experience all things Christmas with her throughout the month of December, and I want to show her as many Christmas lights as humanly possible because she freaking LOVES them. I also can’t wait to see her reaction to what Santa (“Anta!”) brings her because I know she’s going to be super pumped!
Anyways, here’s a peek into our Christmas-y home, mainly for my own documentation.
Merry Christmas Time!!
Have you decorated yet? What’s your favorite part of your home to decorate? How should we decorate outside?
