On Monday, our big girl turned three years old. I’ll probably be in denial about this until the day she turns four. With baby brother at home, and Adam on a hog hunting trip, we decided to go ahead and send A to school on her birthday and celebrate as a family later that evening. She took birthday cupcakes to share with her friends, and I was told everyone sang her happy birthday. As a kid, I remember it always being so much fun being the special birthday girl for the day, so I didn’t feel too guilty sending her to school on her special day. (I was going to keep her home with me and B originally, but this made more sense.) While she was at school, it gave B and I time to get to work on her cake and decorating our breakfast table for her little family celebration.
Since we’re doing her actual princess party on Saturday, we still wanted to be sure and do something special for her on her actual birthday. Unfortunately, all of our local stores were out of helium, so I didn’t get to blow up her big gold ‘3’ balloon, but I think we made the most of what we had and made it look cute. We hung a tassle banner, some streamers, threw some balloons on the table, reused a gold table runner from her first birthday, and voila! The cake is two layers of Funfetti, with homemade buttercream icing and pink sugar sprinkles and pearls. Then I used her tiara for Saturday’s party as the cake topper. Ya’ll, I don’t bake cakes, but I’m quite proud of this little one! B sat in his bouncer up on the counter while I made it and I think he was a little envious I got to lick the spoon! Soon my son, soon. Sweet girl loved everything when she walked in, and wanted nothing more than to run her finger through the icing on the cake and wear her tiara! We sang her happy birthday, ate *her choice* of Whataburger for dinner, then opened her present and played all night.
She’s been waiting her whole life to turn three! She is seriously so excited!
And on Sunday before church, she got to pick out a special birthday donut and of course she chose the mermaid donut!
I can’t wait to celebrate again on Saturday, and finally let her see all the princess decorations we’ve been saving. The party space isn’t very well lit though, so I’m not sure how many pictures I’ll get, but I’ll try to share a full recap next week!
