Breaking Bad & Bob Barker

Happy Monday!! Don’t mind me, I’ve just fallen off the blogging planet for the past few days! Life’s been hectic around here lately, and a migraine last night didn’t help 🙂 I’ve still been keeping up with my 48 Days reading, just haven’t gotten to type up my posts yet! I’ll do that ASAP. I know you’re just itching to see what’s next! But to tide you over, check out this statistic and fact…

“U.S. Department of Labor statistics state that 50% of the jobs we will have in the next 6 years have not yet been created.”

Thomas Edison made 10,000 unsuccessful attempts at inventing the light bulb, and when a reporter asked him how it felt to fail 10,000 times he responded with, “I didn’t fail 10,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 10,000 steps.”

Crazy, yet, inspiring.

Now, for my Photography 101 series, here are some topics I’ve come up with that might be helpful. If you think of something else, leave it in a comment and I’ll add it to my list!

-Making the change from Auto to Manual

-What do all these buttons mean?

-What kind of camera should I be using for a beginner dslr?

-What does ISO mean?

-What does Aperture and Depth of Field mean and is that how you make the backgrounds blurry?

-What’s the difference in a full frame and crop frame camera?

-What’s the best way to compose my photos?

-What does white balance mean and why do you keep yours set on Auto?

-Does the # of megapixels really matter?

-RAW vs. JPG…what does that even mean?

-How do you edit your photos? What programs are out there?

-Where have you bought most of your camera equipment? Can I get a good deal there too?

-When people talk about lenses and use words like, zoom, wide, telephoto, fixed, and prime, what are they talking about?

-How do you make your photos look pretty? #1 tip?

So, thoughts on these subjects?? Have you ever asked any of these questions?

I’ll be honest. REAL honest. I don’t remember the last time I went running. I guess the last time I blogged about it was the last time. And. It’s. Killing. Me. I’m been swamped lately, mentally and emotionally and haven’t been putting myself first. But you know what? It’s a new week, and the sun is out, so do it-to it I say. If I don’t go for another mind-clearing run tonight I just might spontaneously combust. Not to mention, I have a half marathon coming up in 12 weeks and would still like to sub-2! Oh yea, and that whole marathon thing in December. I’m pretending like I’m still in great shape and can pick right up with my training…except I’m not…and I’m already 2 or 3 days behind schedule. Geeze Louise.

And now for the most glorius thing I’ve seen all day. I promise it will MAKE your Monday as well.

You’ve probably learned by now that my husband and I are die-hard Breaking Bad fans. And I miiiiight have a strange, bizarre thing for Jesse Pinkman. So this morning as I was catching up on all my senseless entertainment gossip, I came across this…

That’s right, Aaron Paul, aka Jesse Pinkman, was once on The Price Is Right!

And with that, have a great day!!

Do you watch Breaking Bad? What’s the longest “break” you’ve taken from your routine workouts? Did any of those photography topics tickle your fancy? Are you ready for The Bachelorette tonight?!

Love your positivity on running girl! You are going to rock that half marathon, I just know it! 😉 Which half are you running?

I am so excited about your photography series as I am in the market for a dslr as we speak! What camera do you use? Or, is there a beginners dslr your recommend instead? I feel so overwhelmed just doing my research!

Jana- Thanks girl! It’s called the Soaring Wings Half Marathon in Conway, Arkansas! I use a Nikon D600…but it’s considered a full frame professional camera, so unless you really need all of those capabilities, there are several others I would recommend first!! I’ll get to that 🙂

I’ve never seen Breaking Bad. I really don’t watch tons of TV, though.

My longest break was probably about 2.5-3 weeks a few weeks ago.

I always love reading about photography (I’m a hobbyist), so yes, my fancy is tickled. Can’t wait to see what you do with your series!

No to the Bachelorette as well, LOL! I am just no fun!

All of these photography questions are perfect! I know the answer to some, but it’s always good to have a refresher course. I’m so excited to read these!

Have a wonderful run today. The best part about falling off the horse is that you can always get back on.

Oh -are you going to do Photography tips here? (I’m new to your blog – sorry if you already talked about it.) I’m trying to decide if I want to upgrade to a DSLR but I’m pretty much a point and shoot kind-of picture taker.

Kim- Yes ma’am!! Dslr’s are awesome…if you NEED one..which I’ll explain more later. Sometimes a high quality point and shoot is just fine! 🙂 Welcome to the blog!!

It’s funny that you mention that quote from Thomas Edison, as I just heard it again yesterday while listening to (an old episode of) Balance Bites. Mark Sisson said it in a way that Edison found 10,000 different ways of not to make a light bulb.
    It’s all about perspective.
But you know what I hate hearing “I love your photo’s you must have a great camera”. Yet when people come to my house and the see a particular photo of my kids they love it, and it was with a point and shoot.
It’s like telling a chef he has a great oven… don’t you find that frustrating.
But great tips for the non photographers either way.

Matilda- HAHA YES!!! When someone says, “your camera takes really good pictures” it pretty much drives me crazy!! It’s such a non-compliment that I don’t think people understand!

I love all the topics you have! I would especially be interested in learning what lenses you use and how you compose your pictures. (Just stalked your photography site, by the way, GORGEOUS stuff!)

Ah I am so bad at photography, i could really benefit from a little 101 session!! glad your migraine passed, those are the worst. and as someone who’s posts have also been a little more sporadic the last couple weeks, its totally acceptable- especially in the summer 🙂

Don’t be so hard on yourself. You will get back into running. 12 weeks is a lot of time for a seasoned runner. I’ve never watched breaking bad. I’m more of a Homeland True Blood girl.

I’m so sorry about the migraine! I don’t have them, but my mom does and I always feel so bad that she has to go through them. 🙁
Don’t worry about the running, you’ll get back to it! And with 12 weeks, you have time! I’m new to running and am following a 12 week training plan for my half, so you should be fine seeing as you’re more familiar with running. 🙂
I can’t wait for all the photography tips! I love taking pictures, but know nothing about it and usually just use my iPhone. I’d love to learn more though!
