Blogging Goals: Let’s Do This!

As promised, I’m sharing my top 10 blogging goals for 2015, in no particular order!

Blog Goals

1. Blog more for me, and not for someone else. I think this one should be pretty self explanatory. It’s hard as a blogger to remember WHY you started blogging in the first place. In my case, it was to find an outlet to talk about all things running, instead of constantly talking my husband’s ear off about it! I want to continue to keep in mind why I’m blogging, who I’m blogging for, and remember that if no one ever read my blog again, that would be a-ok because I would still love it just the same!

2. Feel less pressure to comment on other blogs, spend less time but more time, at the same time. Confused? Me too. By this I really just mean I don’t want to feel like I HAVE to comment on X # of blogs a day. Building on goal number one, I want to feel less pressure to comment because the blogging society makes me feel like I have to, and instead comment more because I genuinely have something to say. I think commenting on blogs is SUPER important, and I truly think it’s important for engaging with your readers and promoting community, and I LOVE the fact that readers take time to comment on mine, but I want to focus more on leaving genuine, thought provoking comments.

3. Grow my influence on Instagram. This one sounds pretty typical I suppose. But, I think I’ve decided that Instagram is my favorite social media platform, and I’d love to focus on it a little bit more.

4. Reach 500 followers on Bloglovin. If you aren’t a die-hard blog reader or blogger, then you have no idea what bloglovin is. Basically, it’s like a one-stop-shop for keeping all of the blogs you follow in one place, and allows you to receive updates of everyone’s latest posts. I love it, and look at it almost every day. Again, I think it’s kind of an underestimated source of blog traffic, and I’d love to grow my audience on it as well. 500 probably sounds like a baby goal to some bigger bloggers, but I’d be really excited to hit the big 5-0-0!

5. Be better about making Pinterest a part of my social strategy. I feel like Pinterest is the social media channel we all love to hate. But, it’s not going anywhere soon, so I may as well try to step up my game. We’ll see how that one pans out.

6. Be better about saying “no” to companies and product pitches. Enough said. But, if I could say one thing, it would be that my honest goal for Sweet Miles is to never promote a product I didn’t believe in, or feel like my audience wouldn’t benefit from.

7. Aim to publish 4 posts a week, realistically. I think 4 times a week is a solid goal. Typically it amounts to that already, but if I’m being completely honest with myself, I may never make it to “post every single day” status.

8. Re-do my About page. Soon. And very soon friends!

9. Respond to comments faster. I know, I know. I’m the wooorrsssttt about responding in a timely manner. I’m late to everything in my personal life, so it only makes sense to respond to comments late as well. 2015 though, I’m comin’ for ya comments!

10. Continue to grow my traffic from organic search. This is actually part of what I do at my full-time job – help clients grow their organic search traffic. So, while I do pay attention to this metric and think about it somewhat often, I’m really hoping to develop some more thoughtful strategies, and start analyzing things a little bit more.

Bonus: Send encouraging emails to frequent readers, and invest in building more online relationships with them.

Readdddyyyy go team!

What is one of your blogging goals? What is your favorite way to share on social media? Are you even a blogger? Where do you blog at?

I like your goals, Sarah! I need to work on my pinterest so bad…but yes, I agree. We love to hate it. Instagram has become my new favorite social media platform, so I want to do more with mine as well! Spread my reach. I have gotten so much better about making sure that if I comment on a blog, I’m doing it because I really have something to contribute. Otherwise, I just don’t feel the need so it wastes my time…

Solid goals! I have similar ones — you can read them here: http://www.sweatstretcheat.com/home/2015-goals

I want to really improve my photography for my blog because Pinterest is such a huge part of my traffic. And people like to pin pretty images!

Great goals! I am newer to blogging so I would like to learn more about SEO and WordPress. I also have it on my list to create more drop down menus as I build up my content.

Those are all really great goals! I’ve determined Instagram is my favorite social media too, so I’m hoping to grow mine over this next year as well. I just don’t quite know how? Same thing with Pinterest? There needs to be how-to courses on these things!

I really like all of these, especially #2. I have gotten better at this- I remember when I first started blogging I was just commenting all over the place! I want to grow my influence on IG too- it’s my favorite as well!

I agree with all of these! I have recently started to just have the attitude that it’s really ok to not have a post everyday, and not to stress about it. Life happens, which is why your goals are perfect. I love Instagram (Though i wish you could click ont he links in comments!). Twitter overwhelms me! I definitely go post on there, but I hardly ever go on to chat and communicate with others. I ‘d love to know how to grow my blog following along with Instagram and Pinterest!

Great blog goals for the new year! I have some similar ones but also some different ones. I Like learning what other bloggers do and learning from them. I hope you are able to hit 500 this year! I’m trying to grow my Facebook page to 1k. Maybe I’ll make a goal list. It might help me focus!

Btw- can I ask you who did your blog layout and design? I know you blogged about this before but I can’t remember!

Hey Tia!!! I did it myself! It’s a basic template from StudioPress on the Genesis Framework for WP that I customized, designed, and had a graphic designer I work with do my logo!

I love these goals! I want to work on growing my blog too this year, but I also want to be realistic about it. My full-time job keeps me super busy and I don’t want my blog to become more like a part-time job than a hobby. It’s a tough dilemma because I obviously want to improve my blog and put more effort into it, but not at the expense of my free time and sanity!

I didn’t really think about my blogging goals for this year, but I do want to take time to focus on the little things rather than just always repeating the same cycle of posting, commenting on other posts, and replying to comments. It can be time consuming so if that means I don’t post as frequently than thats ok. Good luck with your goals this year!

Your number one goal is a BIG one for me. I have post drafts that I hesitate to post and delete sometimes because I’m like ehhh nobody cares except me. But it’s my blog, so I should feel free to post what I want, even if it’s a silly story about something cute my kids did, right?! Thats what I’m telling myself 🙂

Instagram is my favorite too — I feel like the pictures and little blurbs give you a more full picture of who the person is than any other social media platform.

    PS — 5 days!!

Lots of comments already, nice work! I agree with the comment less but more. I comment quite a bit right now, it’s not about hitting so many blogs per day, but rather if you have something to say especially if it expands the conversation, say it!

I love your goals!! Oh man, remembering why you blog is such a good one. Sometimes I get stressed about writing something super informative and then I’m like “uhh that is NOT why I started this blog!” One of my goals is to get better at twitter… I just can’t get into it as hard as I try! bah.

Great list! I have already started working on my 1st blogging goal – moving to a self-hosted site. Next up for this weekend, changing and updating the theme. However I will want to make some custom changes, so that will have to happen over time as I learn more about the coding and “fun stuff”. lol. I DO want to grow my followers and hopefully have an income from my blog, but at the same time, I want to NOT lose the real focus on why i’m blogging, and like you, I want to comment and do reviews because I like something and really have something to say about it.
