Hi friends! How is your weekend going? Our has been fantastic thus far, and the blue skies and 60* today are only making it better and better. My white legs didn’t know what was going on when the sun hit them!
Last night we had our traditional Pizza Night, and had a super fun couple over to join us. Adam made three different pizzas, and I made a cast iron skillet chocolate chip cookie with vanilla ice cream. I forgot to take any pictures though, so next time I make it I’ll send a tutorial your way! It was delicious, and so easy!
This morning called for a 7 mile training run, so before the day warmed up I headed to the gym to knock it out. I wore my GapFit Breathe long sleeve top and remembered how much I love it! It’s so lightweight that I didn’t feel like I was overheating at the gym. I’m still so impressed with GapFit running apparel that I will gladly sing its praises! You can get this top for 35% off right now too looks like, using the code posted online! My run went by fairly quickly, and thanks to my 80’s-90’s playlist, I kept myself entertained and distracted. I ate 3 Cytomax Energy Drops and was very impressed! I officially give them a positive review! They came in this month’s Stridebox, and I might have to order some more! After my run, I wrapped up with some crunches, leg curls, leg presses, and lunges. Then, Adam met me at the lake with Miss Truckee where she played frisbee and lacrosse. I played in high school and miss it all the time, so it made my heart happy to play around again! We wore her out, and she’s currently passed out next to me. It was a beautiful day at the lake, and I think all 3 of us greatly enjoyed soaking up the sun! Spending time outside being active together as a family is the best.
Blogger Feature time!
1. What inspired you to start your blog?
Hi Sweet Miles readers. My name is Brooke and I am 29.75 years old (refusing the big 30 as long as possible). I love to sweat and am most content when Running, Cycling, or finding my inner Yogi! I am a small town girl from Arkansas who loves to travel the world. My mantra is Sweet n’ Sweaty, thank goodness I don’t have to choose….between fashion and fitness that is! I love a good conversation, and am convinced that most problems can be solved over a glass of wine or a cup of tea. I am passionate about eating healthy and taking care of my body since it is the only place I have to live. I hope to meet lots of ridiculously cool people through Sweet & Sweaty who share my passion for fitness, health, and the pursuit of happiness in each and every day. Random notes about me: I am in love with a Jersey boy named Steve. My best friend is also referred to as my “life advisor”. I cannot be trusted within 50 miles of a Lululemon or Jcrew. I have 2 wiener dogs (Ollie & Lola) who bring more joy to my world than I can stand. God assembled my family specially for me. I could survive in the wilderness with a camera, almond butter, leggings, and my Sonicare toothbrush!
2. When did you start running?
I only started running about 2 years ago. Sports were always “my thing” growing up and I have always enjoyed a good sweat. BUT when I graduated college I was not prepared for what the corporate world had to offer. The LONG days, the STRESS, the 10 pounds I gained when I moved to a sedentary desk job! Working out (that I always did for fun) was the first thing to go. After years of wear and tear on my body from climbing the “corporate ladder”, getting married, getting divorced, trying to stay young, trying to do it all…every dinner party, every friend invite…..I hit a WALL. I had to make changes and I had to do it fast! I was previously the girl who would go to yoga for a few weeks then fall off the wagon, or run/walk at the park on nice days only, but I never kept a consistent routine! I got myself a personal trainer and it was all history from there. Even though it was only 2 nights a week for 30 minutes, it gave me the accountability and discipline to keep going. And just like they say, it became a habit. One thing led to another and I started running short distances, I bought a bicycle, I started signing up for group events/classes and community events like races and mud runs! Today I sweat at least 6 days a week and I never travel for work or pleasure without packing my running shoes! THAT NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE, who has room for sneakers with all those high heels? Oh how priorities change. I am about to run my first half marathon in 2 weeks, and I already have another one the books for April! #neverlookback #youarentgoingthatway.
3. What is your favorite aspect of running?
Quite simply, running has taken me to places I never dreamed, both physically and mentally! Just like everyone else, I love the feeling after the run, but I equally LOVE the run itself! I like to get lost in the beauty around me and I crave new running locations! My favorite thing to do when I travel now is experience what it is like to run there!
4. What are your upcoming races and goals?
5. What are your favorite running accessories? Are you loyal to particular brands?
If you read my blog at all you will quickly realize I am a loyal Lululemon shopper. My mantra is “Sweet & Sweaty, thank goodness I don’t have to choose…..between fitness and fashion that is!” Lululemon gives me the best of both worlds. They seem to think of everything, placing pockets in all the right places all while keeping things fashionable. I love styling my lulu to the streets, and find that a hobby/sport in itself! Lululemon is my “go to” for running and yoga, but when it comes to biking I tend to go with the brands that specialize in biking like Bontrager and Pearl Izumi.
6. When you’re not running how do you stay active?
Running is my first love. Road biking is a close second, but tends to be a seasonal sport for me. AND Yoga is the “glue” that holds me all together. I try to practice yoga in some way every day, but Hot Yoga is my go to class! I also incorporate strength training in my weekly routine, through weight training, Barre Classes, and TRX to name a few.
7. Do you have a personal mantra you like to recite during tough runs or races?
“If comfort were what you were looking for, you wouldn’t be here!”
8. What race is on your bucket list?
My 2014 bucket list race is the Lululemon SeaWheeze Half Marathon in Vancouver BC. Running & Yoga all in one awesome day…. Who’s with me?
9. What do you like to think about on long runs? Do you listen to music or get lost in your own thoughts?
Music is a must but I always get lost in my thoughts on long runs! I like to “run” off bad days, “run” fast on happy days, and “run” for everything in between. So far I haven’t found a mood that running did fit.
10. What shoes do you run in and why?
I think I just found my “Sole” Mate in the Asics Gel Kayano 19’s, but previously ran in Mizuno Inspire 9’s. I didn’t care for the quality of the new version of the Inspire so I switched to Asics and am blown away. They provide complete support while offering an extremely smooth ride!
11. Name 3 running or healthy living blogs you currently love.
12. What is one lesson running has taught you?
I am much stronger than I ever gave myself credit for.
