Baby Dedication Sunday – Proverbs 31:25

Happy Thursday! Or Friday in my case. I think I’ve mentioned it before, but for these first few weeks back to work, my employer is graciously allowing me to have Fridays off. So far it’s been a huge help with the transition, and it’s given me a little extra playtime with my girly!

This past Sunday was Baby Dedication at our church. I remember sitting through last year’s service and daydreaming about when it would be our turn. At that time, we had just started trying to get pregnant, and I secretly wondered if we already were. (Spoiler, I’m pretty sure we were!)

Baby Dedication Sunday is a sweet, sweet service our church puts on in January every year, to honor all of the new babies born to members throughout that year. This year, 12 were dedicated. During the service, each parent(s) gets to read a prayer to/over their child, then recite a parent’s prayer together. Then, the whole congregation recites a prayer over the new parents, and at the end, the elders pray for the parents.

For the slideshow, we had to provide a newborn and recent photo of Adeline, as well as pick out a verse for her. We chose Proverbs 31:25 – “She is clothed in strength and dignity, and she laughs at the future.” I love everything about Proverbs 31, and hope and pray that Adeline will grow up to be a woman who fears the Lord.

Not going to lie, I think Adam and I were super nervous about it! The idea of trying to make sure Adeline makes it through an entire service without crying, combined with having to go on stage in front of everyone, is a little stressful! Thankfully though, Adeline did just fine, and we survived our public speaking appearance. She didn’t cry until the very end when all of the parents had to go on stage for the elder’s prayer. She was probably the loudest one, ha!

In addition to the service, out in the foyer there were tables with children’s bibles set out for each baby. Members are encouraged to sign the bibles with encouraging notes or scripture. I already can’t wait to read Adeline Bible stories!

Here are a few scenes from the day:

Have a great weekend! It’s supposed to be beautiful here so I’m hoping to get me and the babe outside in the sunshine!

Aww that is so sweet! Tim and I take Jack to church and we sit in the service, but it is usually a bit of a debacle. If we make it there before the singing is done we consider it an accomplishment. And the good news is that whoever has to take him out when he is fussing, that person can still hear the sermon from the hallways. I need to look into when our next baby dedication will be!

SOO precious! Love your outfit too! I feel like I can’t pull off that look, ha. We had to miss the baby dedication in November, and now have to miss the next because we’ll be out of town. It’ll be July I think when A gets baptized! Adeline looked adorable. Love that you two matched 🙂 What a precious verse. I haven’t heard it before but I just love it!
