An Unexpected Tough Workout Deserves Some Rest

Hi again!

Today has officially turned into a rest day. I’ve used up all of my energy the past two days and my body needs to chill tonight. Last night’s workout was going to be an easy strength training workout only, but when multiple overly muscular male figures surrounded me on the treadmill last night during my warm up mile, I just couldn’t stop. And, I totally won, and out ran all of them. Muahaha. Kiddddddding. Kind of.

I did 3 miles:

8:49
8:34
8:00

with about a minute of rest between each mile. Not going to lie, it felt really good to stretch my legs and RUN HARD. And judging by the great salt lake that formed on my face, the ‘ole ticker enjoyed it as well.

After my run, I hopped off and did a complete hot mess of a strength workout. I think I need to follow some sort of gym plan, or something, because I just go from A to X to P to C to G to L to Z. Should there really be a method to my madness? I tend to grab whatever equipment either isn’t being used, is closest to me, looks the least complicated, and I know how to use the best.

I did arm weights, then some leg machines, then some more arm weights, then some medicine ball ab twists, then some yoga ball crunches, then some kettle bell squats, then some bosu ball squats, then some more arm weights. Works for me! Either way, it was a beast, and I am paying for it today.

And before I left, I caved and did what we all hate. I took a gym selfie.

Kind of feel like this picture makes me look like there’s a baby bump going on. Rest assured, that’s just my ice cream lump from the night before. Cookies ‘n Cream AND Moose Tracks. It’ll getchya.

Unexpected tough workouts are the best. I feel accomplished, strong, and ready to lay on the couch tonight.

Happy day!

What are your favorite workouts? What is your favorite gym equipment? How many rest days do you take?

I love leaving the gym feeling accomplished. I also love gym selfies because I like to see everyone’s work out gear and what other gyms look like! haha! I am loving Row class right now at my gym. Really a great workout! Other than that, I really prefer dynamic free weight moves rather than gym equipment….. unless I am working out with a trainer. I use to have a trainer and when he adjusted all the machines for me and just told me what to do I loved it! ha! I typically take 1 full rest day. However, during my marathon train I have been taking 1 full rest and 1 light day of Yoga!

Haha I love looking at other people’s gym selfies, but I hate taking them myself. I do the hodge podge strength workout more than I’d like to admit. Sometimes I just get ADD and can’t decide what I want to do!

Same here!! I love seeing what other bloggers wear to the gym, but I feel so awkward taking them of myself. Oh well 🙂 I sometimes will just start a new workout, then a minute later bail because I’m not feeling it!

I usually rest wednesday and/or friday. As a group fitness instructor, my personal workouts are a little hard to plan. Last night I taught yoga sculpt, then went to the pool to swim. But I had 30 minutes before the pool opened, so I did my couch to 5k workout before, which resulted in me having 3 workouts in one evening. Tonight will be a mandatory rest day.

I’m slowly learning how to feel at home in the gym on something other than the elliptical. I love it!! I have a few fitness apps targeting whatever part of my bod I want to work out for the day, and I’ve been doing that with a friend! It’s been awesome!! But I totally agree with you in that often I have to just use the equipment that is open at the time. I do a lot of mat work, but I also like switching between two machines and often as soon as I get off someone gets on!

Good!! Isn’t it fun to try new things at the gym?? It’s always less scary with a friend 🙂 Sometimes I think I look the most awkward doing mat work, and when I can’t think of something to do, then I really look awkward trying to quickly look up ideas!
