Adeline’s First Birthday Party Details: A Pink and Gold Wild One

And just like that, Adeline’s first birthday party weekend came and went! It was a perfect weekend, and I hate that it flew by so quickly. I think everything turned out just as I had envisioned it, and Adeline seemed to really enjoy her party! I still can’t believe that it even happened – how did my baby turn one this weekend?? How has it been a year?! Crazy, just crazy!

I spent a lot of time prepping for her party, and wanted to make sure it was just right. Of course, they say the first birthday party is more for the parents than for the baby, and I completely agree. Adeline will never remember her first party, and probably not her second, and maybe not her third, but I sure will! I hope she’s able to look back at photos from her big birthday weekend and be reminded how much she is loved, and how much she means to our family.

Today I thought I’d share my favorite photos from her party, including all the details. As I mentioned last week, her party theme was “Wild One”, but it wasn’t over-the-top wild one, just a touch. More or less it was a pink and gold girly theme. I had so much fun getting everything together! It wasn’t anything crazy or pinterest perfect, but it was just right!

We had the party at a large covered pavilion at a local park. I had only driven by it once before the actual day of the party so thankfully it ended up being ok! The pavilion was pretty big, so I tried to section it off and use mainly the most interior tables where I thought everyone would most likely center themselves. The pavilion was also surrounded by woods and had a big grassy field on one side, which was the best place for the kids to play! There’s no way we could have hosted everyone in our little home!

For the menu, we had donut holes, mini ham & cheese rolls, banana nut bread, cake, and coffee/water. Pretty simple, but it ended up being more than enough food for our 10:30 am event. I hired a good friend to make her cake, and it turned out better than I could have ever dreamed! She did an amazing job. Every little girl needs a pink ombre cake! My mom made the ham & cheese rolls, I made the banana nut bread, we picked up donut holes the morning of, and Adam roasted the beans for the coffee in our garage. If Adeline had chosen the menu we would have all eaten peas and bananas, so I figured banana nut bread was a good compromise – and of course she LOVED it!

For her high chair banner, I made it out of strips of different pink/gold fabric, and for her monthly milestone banner, I used pink and gold scrapbook paper as the backing, and hung them with gold painted clothespins. I wish I’d take more photos of these banners, I loved how they turned out! I also had a super cute pink and gold tassle banner, but I couldn’t figure out how to assemble it so sadly it remained unseen. I felt really dumb for not being able to figure it out, but the darn thing didn’t come with directions! I also really wanted to have a play tee-pee, but then I decided that I didn’t want it to become the focal point, or have the kiddos fighting over it.

Her high chair was actually MY high chair as a baby, and Adam built and attached a new tray for it the night before. One day I’m hoping to paint the chair and new tray white, but I just love that my parents saved it!

Adeline’s “smash cupcake” was just a little white cupcake I picked up at Kroger, with a gold candle. I didn’t want her digging in to the cake that everyone else was going to eat, nor did I want her to actually consume that much sugar, but she ended up chowing down on her cupcake and I think she was pretty proud of herself. She definitely hardly napped the rest of the day so I’d say she for sure consumed more sugar than I’d hoped! Oh well!

I think we ended up having about 30 people at her party, which seemed to be the perfect size. She never seemed overwhelmed, and it was fun seeing her be passed around amongst everyone who loves her so much! The weather was much chillier than we’d planned for so girlfriend had to rock some jeggings under her skirt, but I think she still looked adorable. I’ll be sharing her official birthday photo shoot soon!

Such cute decorations! I always like smaller parties better too. More time to connect and not so overwhelming for kids. Those cupcake eating pictures are to die for–so precious!

Thank you! Painting pumpkins is surprisingly difficult…they SOAK up paint! It was a fun ‘theme’ for sure!
