Adeline’s 6 Month Photos: Giving Someone Else Creative Control

Being a photographer, now mom-tographer, has its pros and cons. For instance: Pro – I can take wonderful photos of my daughter without having to pay someone else to take them. (Does that sound braggy? Totally not meant to be) Con – I can’t take photos of myself or my family (if I want to be in them). Pro – I can take as many photos as I want. Con – I have too many photos. Pro – I love all the photos I have of my daughter and am so thankful I have the camera gear and knowledge to take high quality images. Con – I am incredibly picky, never satisfied, and overly judgmental of photos because of it. So, when it came time to have Adeline’s 6 month photos taken, everyone kindly suggested I just do them myself. And while I could, what I CAN’T do is capture our family unit as a whole, in a candid setting, where I am not having to worry for a second about the details of the setup. I can enjoy the process with my daughter and husband, allow myself to be IN some of the photos, and give someone else complete creative control over the images and trust in their work. It is so refreshing to not be the one TAKING the photo, and I highly suggest other photographers do the same.

Today I’m sharing our family photos from Adeline’s 6 month session. My friend Lori, of Lori Sparkman Photography took them and I could not be more pleased! I love them so much and will be framing several in our home! Adeline was pretty much an over-tired stinker the majority of the time, and wasn’t too interested in smiling or ham’ing it up for the camera. Lori was able to capture the smiles she did flash though, and Adeline’s personality shined through to a tee. Family photos are priceless, and I will always invest in them. While I may need my own cloud to store all of the photos we’ve got of Adeline, she’s only little once and I’ll never be able to freeze these moments again!

Adeline’s onesies and gold bow are from Etsy, and her pink smocked dress is from Dillard’s (I think).

Adeline is so precious! I love both the pink smocked dress and her adorable half-birthday onesie. And from looking at these pictures, I’d have no clue she was over-tired! Lori did an awesome job and you have the sweetest baby girl! AND you look fabulous, too, Sarah. Love your braid!

As a photographer I so know what you mean.

I was reading this article the other day about these 2 sisters that were organising a family album, and could only find 3 photo’s of their mum. She was always behind the camera or refused to be in front.
Sure we can have our own hang ups, but you got to get over them. Get everyone in the photo, if not for you then for you kid. Let them have a memory.

They are beautiful family photo’s by the way.
