A 10 Mile Week + The Sweetest Babes

Oh hey friends! It’s been a minute. JK it’s been over a week but I’m making myself sit down for a few minutes of ‘me time’ by way of blogging. I have said in the past that I’ve felt like my blog has served as a sort of therapy, or personal diary, and nearly 7 years later I still feel the same. There’s something about mindlessly jotting down my thoughts that’s good for the soul. If you’re reading this, I applaud you for sticking around. I know it’s felt like a ghost town lately.

The reason I am popping by is to briefly recap this past week of fitness. I’ve made it a goal of mine to try and hit 10 miles a week. And so far, so good. 10 miles feels like a very doable milage to maintain, given everything else I have going on. It allows for a little creativity in how exactly I achieve these 10 miles, and takes the pressure off of saying I have to run a specific # of days per week. If you remember from my 2020 goals post, I’d said I wanted to run 2x a week, so, consider this an addendum!

Let’s get to it! Pssssst still loving my Garmin Forerunner 45s. It’s uh-mazing. I’m planning on doing a more formal review of it soon!

Run 1 – 1.01 miles, 8:38/mi

I posted this on IG on Monday, and shared that I just felt like I NEEDED to get out of the house and run. And run fast. And run fast I did! I surprised myself with a one mile split I haven’t seen in quite a while, and was pretty pumped. I know I’ve been working hard, but I wasn’t sure exactly how hard. It felt really, really darn good to see a time in the 8’s again!

Run 2 – 7.1 miles, 9:50/mi

This 7 miler was exactly what I needed to push my confidence a bit. It wasn’t as pretty as I’d liked, and truth be told the heat got to me by mile 3, but Adam hung with me for the first ~5 so that hugely helped. I actually felt pretty great when I finished, and could have easily knocked out another mile, albeit slowly! Isn’t that always the best feeling though? Feeling like you could go just a little further? Ah love it. There’s always more left in the tank!

How precious is this waffle making crew from Saturday morning? I KNOW!

Most of Saturday was spent being lazy, playing together, cleaning up the backyard, and just loving being with each other! We needed a Saturday at home without plans, and it was exactly what my heart needed after a long work week. These two blondies and their daddy have my heart squeezed so tightly I can hardly stand it!

Sunday morning, we church’d before heading to lunch then home for naps and a Target run. Barrett looks like a future Harding professor or club president – time will only tell! HA!

Adeline begged and begged for one of the double carts at Target, so, being the cool, laid back, chill mom that I am, I finally obliged. Those things are like buses. Anyone else constantly run into displays and have to apologize to strangers because you can’t steer it? No? Just me? Ok cool.

Anyways, she stayed seated for a grand total of about two seconds, (we’re WAY too big for a seatbelt these days – duh *sarcasm) but it was just long enough for me to swoon over how long her hair has gotten! Also, look how dark the top is getting! YA’LL! I can’t even handle the thought of her blonde hair disappearing! This is partly why she’s never had a haircut – oomph!

Run 3 – 2.01 miles, 9:07/mi

Sunday night before dinner, while Adam and the kids played in the backyard, I snuck out for a quick two miler! And it felt so good! My splits were 9:14 then 9:01, so it was nice to see a negative split for once. Getting stronger and faster, slowly but surely!

And that brings us to a brand new week! Lord willing, another 10 miles will fall onto the schedule!

Cheers to you for still reading! Like I said, kind of feeling like a ghost town lately. I truly miss the ‘old’ days of blogging when running blogs were a thing and you could log your miles without any added pressure. Blogging is just so different now, it seems. When I first started blogging, I started out AS a running blogger. And over time of course it evolved as my life evolved, but when I think back to the earliest roots of this blog, I think about it as a running blog. So, it feels good to return to that when I can. I think I said in a previous post that it feels like coming ‘home’ in a sense. I love blogging about motherhood, and have in great detail for several years now, but talking about running and fitness will always be a huge part of the ‘why’ behind Sweet Miles. Anyways, thanks for hanging in there through all of the many seasons, I know it’s been a journey. I’ve got another Barrett update coming soon, so don’t worry, the cute baby content is not ending! 🙂

    Way to go on those miles! And omigod those carts. I’m constantly crashing into things and my daughter always asks “mommy why are you doing that” like I’m doing it on purpose! Lol

    Good job getting those miles in! I just started up running again after an 8 month hiatus and I’m struggling to even get 5 miles into my week (and none of the runs are over 2 miles). I have an almost 14 month old and ran all the way through pregnancy (even doing a half in my second trimester) and another half when my son was 5 months old. And then, I just stopped. Cold turkey. I feel like I am beginning again, but this post gave me some hope that I can get back into my running life, even if it doesn’t look the same as it did before.

      It’s hard! And it’s really, really hard to fit it into your schedule as a busy mom! You can do it – hang in there!
