4th of July Recap: An Active Family Weekend in Texas

Hi sweet readers! How were your 4th of July weekend celebrations?! Did you run in a Firecracker 5k? Grill out with the fam? Shop the sales? Tell me about it!

We spent the long weekend in Texas with my husband’s side of the family, and as usual, the weekend passed way too fast! It seems that the long weekends tend to go by the fastest, so we always try our best to soak up the family time and savor these visits with our nieces and nephews. They’re only little once, and they’ve already grown up so much! I wish I could freeze and speed up time all at once – I don’t want them to get any bigger, but I can’t wait to see what they grow up to be! I have a feeling the arms flailing, screaming at the top of their lungs, “AUNT SARAH!!!!!!!” hugs, are only going to last so many more years. Being an Aunt has been such a joy, and there’s nothing sweeter than those little voices.

So, here’s a quick photo dump recap of our weekend. It’s a combination of iPhone and camera pics. Enjoy!

Friday morning, we joined the whole fam for a cute neighborhood 4th of July parade. We wore our overly patriotic outfits, and waved our flags, while the kids collected candy and cheered on the horses, firetrucks, and boy scouts.

Don’t worry, Adam’s USA t-shirt with discreetly painted on abs stole the show.

After the parade, we headed back to my in-law’s house for a DELICIOUS backyard cookout with sweet friends. They also have a beautiful new pool, so while we were eating, the kids could barely wait for me to finish eating before pleading with me to go swimming with them. It was the least I could do.

We spent the whole afternoon out at the pool, swimming with the kids and getting some serious sun!

We even let Truckee in on the action. Her paws were too hot on the pavement so she just had to step in, which led to her second time swimming, ever, and she LOVED it. She is such a water dog at heart, and watching her float around was too cute. She was a bit of a hot mess at first, and we were a little concerned she was the only labrador that might not take to swimming naturally, but she figured it out again and settled into an easy doggie paddle! Needless to say, it was near impossible to drag her away from the water for the rest of the weekend! Seriously, she was one HAPPY dog.

So. Tired.

Friday night, we watched the fireworks from the local splash pad and water park, and enjoyed walking around and playing before the sun went down. Adam decided to go full red-neck and lose the sleeves on his Wal-Mart find, probably the best decision he made all day.

Saturday morning, my sister-in-laws and I took a Stand Up Paddleboarding class!

Just call us pro’s. It was a BLAST!

It was a little wobbly at first, but we all know I can’t even stand on a skateboard sitting still. Once we got used to it though, it felt great! We had so much fun paddling around, and goofing off. We got creative and attempted a few yoga moves just for fun, which only deepened my desire to want to take a yoga class on the reg. even more!

You would not believe how much my downward dog hurt. This girl needs to do some SERIOUS stretching. Pronto.

I attempted crow pose, and to my sister-in-law’s credit, she DID get a pic with my feet off the ground, but it was super blurry from the waterproof case 🙂 So you’ll just have to pretend. It was nothing compared to her crow pose though, she KILLED it!

The rest of the day was spent playing in the pool, and enjoying our time together. Then Saturday night, we hung out in the driveway while the kids played, and the adults competed in a ping-pong tournament. It. Was. Intense. Truckee enjoyed lounging around and basking in the remaining sun rays. Isn’t she so pretty?!

Glad you had a great 4th! I’ve always wanted to try Stand Up Paddleboarding. It’s on my bucket list! I wish there were somewhere in Northwest Arkansas for me to get lessons or take a class.

Your nieces and nephews are GORGEOUS. So many wonderful pictures! And ping-pong tournaments always get intense, no matter the age of the players. I had a nice low-key family weekend! It definitely flew by 🙂

Awesome pics – love your black lab!!! They are just the bet aren’t they? Your husband’s shirt if out of control. My boyfriend wore a shirt with a huge American flag and eagle that said God Bless America. I love the cheesy shirts you can find these days. I went to DC this year and it was amazing. This was my second year in a row doing “touristy” things on the fourth, which is odd because usually I just enjoy hanging out an BBQing. It was fun though!

This sounds like such a great Fourth of July with family! We spent the whole weekend with my parents, brother, and SIL. My grandparents also came over to my parents’ house on the Fourth so we all cooked out, and then we swam. We also played some games and just had fun. It was a perfect weekend! We have our vacation to Colorado planned next week, so I’m really excited! 🙂

Stand up paddle boarding looks so fun! I need to give it a try, but I would probably end up falling a million times.

So much red white and blue!! That’s awesome. And it’s funny, my friends were all talking about getting together to do some paddle boarding soon! Looks pretty fun, although I doubt I attempt any yoga when I try it out! =)

I really want to try stand up paddle board yoga but I’m too scared that I’ll fall off my board during the middle of the class while everyone else is really zen and make a big splash. I should just suck it up and try! And over the weekend I tried kayaking for the first time and it was super fun 🙂
