2016: Top Blog Posts

It’s hard to believe another year has come to an end. I mean, I thought last year flew by, but 2016 feels like it flew by in the blink of an eye. Literally. I know that’s so cheesy, but my goodness, how is it possible for time to go by so fast?

Today I wanted to recap my top performing blog posts. This blog not only serves as a creative outlet, but also an online diary, and some of my favorite life moments get documented through here! One day when blogs are no longer cool and computers all exist in our minds instead, I’m going to have to print out my favorite posts and save them somewhere!

Ok, let’s get to it. The top 5 posts that received the most traffic this year were actually all written in 2015! Apparently 2015 was a big year! I’m also sharing the top 5 posts written in 2016. Of course, none of my FAVORITE posts were the top performers, but if I had to recap all of my favorite posts it would take all day. So, let’s stick to the numbers!

Overall Top 5 Most Viewed Posts of 2016:

what to take to hospital for birth

#1: Newborn Life: What I REALLY Used In The Hospital and the First Few Days at Home

This post was so much fun to write. I tried to be as honest as possible, and apparently a lot of you could relate! It’s still my second top performing post of all time, and has been pinned over 3,800 times. This year alone, it got nearly 43,000 pageviews on my blog. Aside from the fun statistics, what I’m most encouraged by is how it resonated with so many new moms! I so hope it helped a few of you!

must have baby products

#2: My Favorite Baby Products I Never Knew I Needed

For this post, I rounded up all of the baby products I find myself constantly recommending to other moms to be. We were gifted so many wonderful things, and a lot of them ended up being our favorite items!

paint balloon gender reveal

#3: It’s A

One again, our gender reveal is at the top! This is a funny post to me because it’s my blog’s all time TOP performing post. The original pin has been pinned nearly 21,000 times, and it’s been featured on a few fun places around the web, and then re-pinned from those sources! (Better Homes & Gardens featured it, and now that’s been pinned nearly 15,000 times! What the heck!) I had no idea it would take off like that, and that certainly was never my intention! We just thought it was a really cute idea and being a blogger, I posted it! It’s crazy how you just never know what content is going to spark interest in your readers, and apparently our gender reveal was extra interesting!

pregnancy blog

#4: Pregnancy landing page

This one surprised me a little bit, but I guess it makes sense when I dig a bit deeper. The subpage for all things Pregnancy was the fourth most popular page/post on the blog this year. It’s no secret I blogged throughout our entire first pregnancy, and a huge portion of traffic this year was to pregnancy related blog posts. It really made me question how much of a “running” blog Sweet Miles still is, and how much more of a “mom” blog it has become. The  majority of the feedback on my EOY reader survey said they either found my blog, or read my blog because of, pregnancy related posts, and that those posts were highly relatable and helpful. It makes me so happy to hear that sharing my experiences in an open and honest way has been encouraging to other moms to be!

#5: Pink Blush Maternity Review

Annnnnd another pregnancy related blog post snagged one of the top spots. In this post, I shared some of the Pink Blush clothing I purchased and how it fit. I also did a sponsored Pink Blush post, but it’s a bit further down the list. I felt like it was really hard to find CUTE maternity clothes, so when I found PB I fell in love! Of course now that I’m NOT pregnant, I feel like I see cute maternity clothes everywhere!

Top 5 Posts Written in 2016

new job inspiration

#1: She Believed She Could So She Did

This post was like a huge sigh of relief. I still have to pinch myself sometimes. I feel like writing this post was the culmination of 3 years of hard work and dreaming, and a whole lot of mama passion. Landing the ability to work full time from home was, and still will be, probably my favorite moment of 2016.

#2: Adeline 3 Month Update

My sweet girl!! She looks so little and delicious in these photos from her 3 month update!! I’m a little surprised this was the second most popular “2016” post, but she is pretty darn cute! This year was definitely the year of Adeline, and I religiously posted her monthly updates. Now, if I can only get them transferred to her baby book!

dad bag review for trendy dad diaper bag

#3: Iconoclast Dad Bag Giveaway: Because Childcare Isn’t Just a Woman’s Job

This post was actually written by Adam! Navigating the waters of first time fatherhood included a lot of frustrations around the realization that the world just isn’t made for new dads! Iconoclast makes diaper bags specifically for dads, and Adam has loved using his all year! It is so important within a marriage that raising the kids (AND CHANGING THEIR DIAPERS!) is a tag team effort! This post had way more views than actual entries, but I’m glad it resonated with so many people! We are always bragging on his daddy diaper bag, and will forever recommend it!

#4: To My Friends Without Kids

I never understood how hard it would be to maintain friendships after becoming a mom, until Adeline was here. It’s a tough thing to balance, and definitely takes a lot of grace and humility on both sides of the fence. Learning to accept that your life just looks different than some of your friends is a tough pill to swallow. Times have changed, but I truly believe your closest friends will always be there for you, even if they choose not to have kids themselves.

what I wish i knew before i became a mom

#5: Before I Became a Mom, I Wish I’d Known…

This was one of those, I-need-to-share-what’s-on-my-hormonal-heart-today-or-I-might-explode kind of posts. It obviously resonated with other new moms though because it was the 5th most popular “2016” post! It’s always encouraging to feel like you aren’t alone in this whole motherhood thing. One of these days I’ll have to put this one in A’s baby book.

It’s been a great year, maybe my favorite year yet! 2015 was a tough act to follow, but 2016 surpasses it with flying colors! I have absolutely loved every second spent getting to know Adeline, and learning to live as a family of 3. I truly, truly can’t wait to see what 2017 brings, and I will forever cherish 2016 as my first full year with my baby girl. What a magical 365 days it has been!

I’ll be back in a few days to share my favorite moments of 2016, goals for the new year, and the results of my reader survey {finally!}. I’ve got some big goals for this little blog of mine, and I’m excited to reach them.

What was your favorite post you read on the blog this year? Was it one of these or another? What are you looking forward to in the new year, or most cherishing from 2016?
