Last night I headed to the gym for an Olympic inspired bike ride. I’m not sure what came over me but I just had this crazy hankering for some gym time. It’s rare these days that I have the energy to hit the gym after a full day of work so as soon as Adeline was sound asleep in her crib, I pretty much threw the monitor at Adam and said peace out!
I told him my goal was to hit 10 miles in under 45 minutes, which is a cross training workout I used to do when I was training for my marathons. 10 miles, at varying resistances and speeds, in 45 minutes or less. Coming from someone who isn’t a cyclist by any means, it’s always a pretty solid, sweat-tastic workout so I knew it would once again be a challenge. I also haven’t done one of these workouts since before we got pregnant, so it’s been a hot minute since my little legs have peddled that far! Spoiler alert: loved it, felt amazing, and can’t wait to beat my time.
I wore my Nike Lunarglides for the first time in what feels like forever and quickly remembered how much I loved them! They’re seriously so fantastic for light gym workouts…so comfy!! And lululemon wunder unders of course because I’m too lazy to shave my legs.
My inspiration during my ride proved to be exactly that – INSPIRATIONAL! I plugged by bike into one of the TVs in front of me that was airing the track & field competition at the Olympics. Talk about easy workout motivation! At least two world records were broken on my ride, and I couldn’t help but think the entire time, “they are working SO much harder than I am right now, don’t stop, don’t stop, don’t stop!” I also couldn’t help but imagine just how much training they’d put into these past four years, in order to race for what seemed like mere seconds on the world’s biggest stage. These track runners are just incredible to me, and not gonna lie, I often get some serious leg and butt envy! Anyone else?#goals #butreally
I ended up hitting 9.6 miles in 45 minutes, and 10.3 miles in 47 minutes before calling it a night. I biked through multiple levels and speeds, and could feel.the.burn.
I am going to be so bummed when the Olympics are over! The timing could not have been better – I needed something like this to give me some extra oomph in getting back in shape! There’s nothing like watching the world’s best athletes every night as you sit on the couch and eat cookies to motivate you to actually do the opposite. WE CAN DO IT! If I can drag my tired mom-bod to the gym, you can too!
